It’s the final match of what has been a successful month on the pitch for the Vancouver Whitecaps.

With a 3-0-0 record in April, Jesper Sørensen’s side will look to close out the month on a high as they host the Colorado Rapids, who are one of the league's top scorers so far, only behind the Whitecaps.

Here's everything you need to know.

How the Vancouver Whitecaps come into the match

It was an easy outing last time for the Whitecaps, claiming a 3-0 win over Sporting Kansas City, with Emmanuel Sabbi, Bruno Caicedo, and Thomas Müller scoring in a first-half onslaught.

With the San Jose Earthquakes defeating Austin 5-1 on Wednesday, the Whitecaps drop to second place in the Western Conference and the Supporters' Shield table, granted that Vancouver has a game in hand.

Jesper Sørensen's side must keep their good momentum if they want to lift that MLS Supporters' Shield.

How the Colorado Rapids come into the match

It's been a decent start in the club's first year under Matt Wells, sitting in 7th place with a 4-1-4 record.

Their latest match saw them pick up a goalless draw away from home against LAFC, with the Rapids the better side from an attacking perspective.

Goals have been flying for them, with 21 scored across their opening nine matches, just one shy of the league’s top attacks, the Vancouver Whitecaps and San Jose Earthquakes. However, they’ve also conceded 15 times.

Head-to-head

The Colorado Rapids delivered a statement performance in the most recent meeting, earning a 3-0 home win thanks to goals from Calvin Harris, Rafael Navarro, and Andreas Maxsø. Navarro also had a chance to add to his tally from the penalty spot but was denied by Yohei Takaoka.

Vancouver Whitecaps responded in the last clash at BC Place, securing a 2-0 victory in a dominant showing where Colorado failed to register a single shot on target. Brian White and Emmanuel Sabbi found the net to seal the result.

Historically, the matchup has been closely contested. Across 34 meetings, Colorado holds a slight edge with 14 wins to Vancouver’s 12, while eight matches have ended level.

Vancouver’s biggest win came on the final day of the 2013 MLS season, when Camilo Sanvezzo scored a hat trick in a 3-0 victory, a performance that secured him the MLS Golden Boot and marked his final appearance for the club. Colorado’s largest win remains that recent 3-0 result, underlining how evenly matched these sides have been over time.

Players to watch

Vancouver's engine has once again been delivering sensational performances, with midfielder Andrés Cubas being vital to the club's success in 2026. The club has struggled at times when its Paraguayan international wasn't on the pitch. The Whitecaps haven't conceded in the 611 minutes that Cubas has played across all competitions.

Vancouver's confidence to win this game will be sky high with Cubas once again set to start alongside Sebastian Berhalter, two of the best midfielders in the league.

In Colorado’s attacking renaissance, Brazilian striker Rafael Navarro has emerged as the focal point of the attack.

The 26-year-old has been outstanding in 2026, tallying six goals and three assists in nine matches while missing just six minutes of MLS action all season. That brief absence came against Toronto FC, when he was substituted in the 84th minute, just moments before Josh Sargent netted the winner.

It’s a remarkable rise considering his slow start in 2023, when he scored just once in ten matches. Since then, Navarro has developed into one of the league’s most reliable forwards, notching 17 goals in 2024 and 15 more in 2025.

He’ll once again be central to Colorado’s hopes, and given his track record, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him add a third career goal against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Availability

This section will be updated once the MLS availability reports are released on Friday, April 24, at 2:00 pm PT / 5:00 pm ET.

Sam Adekugbe, Ryan Gauld, Belal Halbouni, Ralph Priso, and Sebastian Schonlau all remain sidelined for the Vancouver Whitecaps through injury, while Ranko Veselinović will likely be available after completing several first-team training sessions.

Reggie Cannon, Ted Ku-DiPietro, Miguel Navarro, and Connor Ronan were all listed out for the Colorado Rapids in their draw against LAFC, with Miguel Navarro surprisingly appearing off the bench for the Rapids. The remaining three will likely remain out for Colorado. A confirmed absentee is midfielder Josh Atencio, who received his fifth yellow card of the season, resulting in a yellow-card accumulation suspension.
