Vancouver FC completes crucial comeback against playoff race rival FC Supra

Fans at The Stadium at Langley Events Centre were treated to a great game yesterday: Vancouver FC turned around a 2-0 deficit to grab a 3-2 win against FC Supra.

Martin Nash lined up the hosts in a 4-2-3-1, with captain Callum Irving protected by a defence of Kian Proctor, Tom Field, Matteo Campagna, and Morey Doner. Marcello Polisi and Damiano Pecile were the double pivot behind veteran attacking midfielder Nicolás Mezquida. Mohamed Amissi and Thierno Bah started on the wings, while Lys Mousset was the lone striker.

Nick Razzaghi also lined up his side in a 4-2-3-1, with Joakim Milli starting in goal, and Diyaeddine Abzi, Matisse Chrétien, Keesean Ferdinand, and Zachary Fernandez completing the defence; Fernandez came in for the suspended Charles Auguste. Omar Elkalouli and Aboubacar Sissoko started behind attacking midfielder Sean Rea, who was complemented by Loïc Kwemi and club captain David Choinière on the wings. Ibrahim Condé started up top for the visitors to complete the team.

The game kicked off, and FC Supra received a corner on the tenth minute mark. Sean Rea's delivery was met by Matisse Chrétien, who headed it past Callum Irving to make it 1-0 for the visitors.

Minutes later, the Quebecois side took advantage of their dominance and got a second: after some nice individual dribbling from David Choinière, his service was finished confidently by Ibrahim Condé to make it 2-0.

Supra continued to dominate Vancouver, who looked lost in the opening half hour of this one; Sean Rea had an acute-angled strike saved comfortably by Callum Irving.

After the opening 30 minutes, something clicked for the Eagles, who looked better after that moment.

Mohamed Amissi decided to start a solo run from his own half, and after some excellent dribbling, his service was deflected into the back of Supra's net by Keesean Ferdinand, and that's what got the Eagles back in it.

Vancouver weren't done: Tom Field put in a perfect cross from the midfield, and the EPL-experienced striker Lys Mousset dispatched the header perfectly into the bottom corner for his fifth goal of the season, levelling the game at two just before the break.

Supra looked for a response minutes later when Sean Rea decided to strike from distance, but Callum Irving was up to the task and made a good save.

Diyaeddine Abzi would take down Nicolás Mezquida and receive the first yellow card of the game. With his eighth yellow card of the season, Abzi is now suspended for FC Supra's next game due to yellow card accumulation for the second time in 2026.

Three minutes would be added at the end of the first 45.

The Eagles would nearly complete a first-half comeback when Mohamed Amissi received the ball from Lys Mousset, but his strike anxiously missed the bottom right corner.

After goalscorer Matisse Chrétien was shown a yellow card, referee Carly Shaw-MacLaren blew her whistle to signal for halftime. After a rough start, the Eagles bounced back and looked the favourite to win this one.

The second half began with a change for the visitors: Eliakim Awonongbadje came in at right-back for Zachary Fernandez.

Supra nearly had the perfect start to the second 45; David Choinière's cross ricocheted off Kian Proctor and onto the post, and stayed out.

Mohamed Amissi would have another chance: after Marcello Polisi's long ball found the Burundi international, his shot from the left side went wide of the near post.

Both sides would make changes three minutes apart, with Supra bringing on Noah Santos for Ibrahim Condé, while Vancouver took off Lys Mousset for Terran Campbell.

Thierno Bah would nearly have a moment of brilliance when a mazy solo run got him in behind, but a last-ditch tackle from Eliakim Awonongbadje denied a clean shot for the electric winger.

Moments later, Bah got his moment.

Marcello Polisi sent a long ball from his own half, and after a poor header from Diyaeddine Abzi, Bah got in behind and, with some excellent composure, placed it into the bottom left corner to complete a thrilling comeback.

That triggered a triple change for the visitors: Aboubacar Sissoko, David Choinière and Diyaeddine Abzi were replaced by Safwane Mlah, Alessandro Biello and Thomas Lebeuf.

Minutes later, Martin Nash went to the bench; Benjamin Lee replaced Nicolás Mezquida.

Supra would push for an equalizer: after a nice dummy, Noah Santos was taken off possession by Callum Irving, who came off his line at the perfect time to prevent a chance for Nick Razzaghi's side.

The Eagles would go to their bench for a double change, with Mohamed Amissi and Damiano Pecile handed some rest, and Paris Gee and Aboubacar Traore coming in for the remaining minutes.

After Omar Elkalouli barged into the box, the ball popped up for Loïc Kwemi, who put his effort into the side netting, marking a big chance missed for the league's top scorer.

Thomas Lebeuf would be shown a yellow card after fouling Thierno Bah.

The fourth official decided to add on four minutes of stoppage time, giving Supra a good amount of time to find an equalizing goal.

Vancouver almost sealed the deal when Paris Gee laid a ball across to Benjamin Lee from the left side of the box, but his side-footed effort just missed the bottom right corner.

That would be it after stoppage time expired. The Eagles have put themselves in an excellent position for potential playoff qualification, sitting eight points clear of fifth-place Supra. The Quebecois side do have a game in hand, but now must win most of their remaining games to stand a chance.

For the hosts, Vancouver FC will hit the road to York Lions Stadium to face Inter Toronto on Sunday, with kickoff set for 12:00 pm PT / 3:00 pm ET.

For the visitors, FC Supra return to Stade Boréale to take on the Halifax Wanderers on Saturday, with kickoff set for 4:00 pm ET / 5:00 pm AT.
