The Whitecaps have gone three games without defeat, but their most recent game was disappointing by their high standards.

In the first leg of the Canadian Championship Semifinals, the Whitecaps managed a 1-1 draw against CF Montréal, with Ryan Gauld scoring the lone goal for the hosts.

They remain at the top of the MLS Western Conference by four points, so heading into this game, Jesper Sørensen's side will be focused on catching up to Nashville SC in the race for the MLS Supporters' Shield.

How St. Louis City enters this match

One of the best MLS sides in form is St. Louis City SC, currently riding a 13-match unbeaten run that includes eight wins.

In their most recent outing, St. Louis probably should've won. They grabbed a 3-3 draw against FC Dallas at home, despite holding a 3-1 lead heading into the final ten minutes of the game.

Currently sitting sixth in the MLS Western Conference, a win tonight would be a real statement of intent from Yoann Damet's side, with this being their moment to send a warning to the rest of the league.

Head-to-head

The last meeting between these two sides could be described as pure cinema. Last year in August, these two met at BC Place Stadium. After Eduard Löwen's opener was cancelled out by a Brian White penalty, João Klauss found the back of the net before Daniel Ríos headed in the equalizer, sending the match into ten minutes of added time. The drama began during the final stages of added time when Mathías Laborda went down in the box, which looked like a dive at first glance, but the replay showed Mykhi Joyner clipping the Uruguayan's heel, although the contact looked minimal. After a VAR review, referee Fotis Bazakos controversially gave a last-minute penalty to the Whitecaps, which was converted by Thomas Müller for his first goal in the White and Blue of Vancouver.

The overall series doesn't favour the visitors, who have only won once against the 'Caps, while the hosts have won four and drawn once against St. Louis. Yoann Damet's side are hopeful to get a first-ever win at Vancouver, and with the current form they are on, it's a real possibility.

Players to watch

Vancouver's striker will definitely be looking forward to tonight's matchup; Brian White loves a goal against St. Louis. In his career against the visitors, White has scored eight goals in six games against St. Louis, with the only game where he didn't score against St. Louis being the 0-0 draw in 2025 at Energizer Park. In 2026, White has enjoyed another good season in front of goal, recording fourteen goals and four assists in 28 games across all competitions. With three goals in his last three games since returning from a hamstring injury, White continues his journey to 100 goals with the Whitecaps; he now sits seven goals away, and a good game against St. Louis would definitely help him reach that number.

A former Whitecap is now on form for the hot St. Louis. Simon Becher is on a good stretch with the Cityzens; the 27-year-old has been particularly good in his last eight games, recording five goals and an assist. He only had one goal and three assists before this run, and since St. Louis have been linked to a Designated Player to play as a striker, Becher is making the case that he can be a potent nine whenever called upon. With the arrivals of Rafael Navarro and Damion Downs, Becher is projected to start alongside Navarro today, which would mark his first start against the Whitecaps, which was the side that drafted him and gave him his first professional deal in the sport. Availability

For Vancouver, Kenji Cabrera, Belal Halbouni, Kwasi Poku, Ralph Priso, and Ranko Veselinović will once again be unavailable due to injuries. Cabrera is confirmed to miss the rest of the season after the Whitecaps placed the Peruvian U-22 Initiative Player on the Season-Ending Injury List. Colombian defender Édier Ocampo won't be available after suffering a migraine on Wednesday. New signings Yadaly Diaby and Rui Modesto are good to go for the 'Caps, with the former having received minutes this season with Grenoble Foot 38.

For St. Louis, Kyle Hiebert and Célio Pompeu are unavailable for tonight's match, while Jaziel Orozco and Tomáš Ostrák are listed as questionable. Palmer Ault and Brendan McSorley are both available after missing their most recent game.
