League1 Prairies has been in the planning stage for over two years, with an initial announcement made in June 2023. At the time, League1 Canada stated that, in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Soccer Association and the Manitoba Soccer Association, it would begin hosting information sessions for organizations interested in joining the league.
League1 Prairies will become the fifth semi-professional League1 Canada competition in the country, joining League1 Ontario, Ligue1 Québec, League1 British Columbia, and League1 Alberta.
League1 Canada operates as an umbrella organization for the Division III leagues and organizes a yearly tournament for the winners of the women’s divisions across Canada, known as the Inter-Provincial Championship.
