The preliminary round of the 2026 Canadian Championship is done and dusted, delivering two upsets and plenty of goals along the way.
Here's a full recap of the week's action.
Toronto FC 1-3 Atlético Ottawa
The Voyageurs Cup got off to a lively start as Ottawa knocked Toronto out in the opening match, with Ballou Tabla's second-half hat-trick settling the tie.
Deandre Kerr had put the Reds ahead, but a string of substitutions that suggested Robin Fraser was keeping key players fresh for the weekend clash against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami left Toronto vulnerable, and they conceded three in the space of 25 minutes to see their Canadian Championship campaign end on the same day it began for the second year running.
For Ottawa, beyond the historic nature of the victory, it was also a crucial result in terms of turning their early-season form around.

CF Montréal 5-0 Calgary Blizzard SC
The Bleu-blanc-noir had no issues at home against the Alberta Premier League champions, scoring five through Ivan Losenko, Daniel Ríos, Wiki Carmona, Iván Jaime, and Frankie Amaya.
Expectedly, it was Montreal who held the majority of possession and the better chances, but the Calgarians held their own for long stretches of the first half, coming close to reaching the break just 1-0 down. A different match if that happens.
Regardless, the Impact showed the clear quality gap between both levels, securing their spot in the quarter-finals, where Vancouver FC awaits.

FC Supra 3-1 Woodbridge Strikers
The Canadian Premier League's newest side took care of business at home, defeating the Ontario Premier League champions 3-1 at Stade Boréale on Friday night.
Diyaeddine Abzi, Aboubacar Sissoko, and David Choinière all scored their first goals for the club, while Jacob Spizzirri briefly levelled for the semi-pro side with a fine strike.
Supra advanced to the quarter-finals and will take on Atlético Ottawa in a two-legged tie, with revenge for their home opener firmly in mind.

Forge FC 4-0 Halifax Wanderers
All Forge in Hamilton.
The Hammers defeated Halifax with four goals in the space of 15 actual match minutes, putting the tie to bed early in the second half.
Tristan Borges opened the scoring with a stunning strike and added another after the break, while Antoine Batisse joined the party and Brian Wright applied the finishing touch.
Forge have now kept a clean sheet in five of their six domestic matches and have yet to concede a goal from open play in domestic competition this year.
Halifax, meanwhile, bow out of the cup at the hands of Forge once again.

Pacific FC 1-3 Cavalry FC
The Cavs got the job done in Langford.
Daan Klomp opened the scoring in the first half.
At one point, the match looked destined for an extra 30 minutes after Josh Belluz drew the Tridents level in the 78th minute.
Cavalry had other plans, though, winning a late penalty that Tobias Warschewski tucked away, before Michael Baldisimo put the game to bed.

Inter Toronto FC 0-1 CS Saint-Laurent
They've only gone and done it again.
Saint-Laurent knocked Inter Toronto out of the Voyageurs Cup, two years after pulling off the same feat against the Halifax Wanderers in this very round.
Younesse Chibane scored what proved to be the winner and the game's only goal, finding himself one-on-one with Diego Urtiaga.
The hosts dominated and carved out several chances, but couldn't beat Saint-Laurent goalkeeper Martin Cantona, the nephew of legend Eric Cantona, who pulled off an impressive 14 saves to keep a clean sheet and send his side through.

Vancouver FC 2-0 Langley United
To close out the preliminary round, same-city rivals Vancouver FC and Langley United played out at Willoughby Community Park, with the professional side taking the victory after two late goals.
It was a pretty even affair for the most part, with Langley finding some great chances but unable to convert.
The Eagles were solid in the second half and could've had more goals.
Tom Field opened the scoring after deflecting a shot into the net, while Nicolás Mezquida put the match to bed with a tap-in after a fantastic run on the wing from Kian Proctor.
