The preliminary stage of the Canadian Championship comes to an end tomorrow, as the first of two matches sees us head to Toronto, where Canadian Premier League side Inter Toronto will take on Ligue 1 Québec side CS Saint-Laurent. Here's everything you need to know heading into tomorrow afternoon's match.

How Inter Toronto enters this match

It's been a good start in this new identity for Inter Toronto, currently holding a 2-2-0 record that has them placed third in the CPL standings.

Their most recent match saw them defeat Atlético Ottawa 4-1, with all four goals coming in the second half, including a Tomasz Skublak brace, an own goal by Loïc Cloutier, and a Julian Altobelli strike.

Inter Toronto’s best Canadian Championship run came in 2022, when the Vancouver Whitecaps eliminated them in the semifinals. But with no MLS teams standing in their way of a potential final, could Mauro Eustáquio’s side mark the club’s first season under its new identity with a major statement?

How CS Saint-Laurent enters this match

While they have yet to lose a match in the new Ligue1 Québec season, CS Saint-Laurent find themselves in an unusual sixth position with a 1-3-0 record.

They picked up that first win in their most recent match, defeating CS LaSalle 4-1. Similar to Inter Toronto, Étienne Tremblay opened the scoring before Matthew Catavolo added a hat trick.

While they were recently defeated by Toronto FC by an aggregate score of 11-1, this Saint-Laurent side has beaten CPL opposition before, so it could happen again.

Record against sides from the same league

This will not be Inter Toronto’s first encounter with a Ligue1 Québec side. In the 2025 edition of the competition, they faced FC Laval at home and earned a 5-0 victory thanks to goals from Julian Altobelli, Max Ferrari, Adonijah Reid, Bryan Rosa and Massimo Ferrin.

CS Saint-Laurent has also taken down CPL opposition before. In their most recent and only Canadian Championship campaign in 2024, they eliminated the Halifax Wanderers in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw through 90 minutes.

As these two sides prepare to face each other for the first time, both will feel confident after finding success against opponents from each other’s leagues.

Projected XIs

Inter Toronto FC (3-4-3): Diego Urtiaga; Luke Singh, Carlos Guzmán, Frank Sturing (c); Juan Córdova, Jessé Costa, Steffen Yeates, Max Ferrari; Béni Badibanga, Sebastián Gonzales, Gabriel Bitar
