INT Inter Toronto 4 FT 1 OTT Ottawa

Inter Toronto scored four unanswered goals in just 13 minutes, thumping Atlético Ottawa 4-1 at York Lions Stadium.

It was a busy start for referee Sebastian Noshinravanim, with two FVS challenges in the opening ten minutes.

First, Inter Toronto initiated an FVS review as Tomasz Skublak went down following off-the-ball contact from Noah Abatneh. After reviewing the collision, the referee awarded the hosts a free-kick, but no booking for Abatneh.

Then, Atlético Ottawa made an FVS challenge of their own, as Ballou Tabla went down in the box following an apparent shove from Inter Toronto goalkeeper Diego Urtiaga. However, after going to the monitor, the referee deemed there was not sufficient contact to award a penalty.

Later in the half, Urtiaga made a crucial, point-blank save to deny Tabla from just six yards out. On the other end, Ottawa needed a headed goal-line clearance from Wes Timóteo to prevent Luca Accettola's looping header from finding the net.

But, after a back-and-forth first 45, both sides went in scoreless at the break.

Inter Toronto came out swinging in the second half as Shola Jimoh struck the outside of the post after just 33 seconds.

Eventually, Inter Toronto took the lead as Juan Córdova’s speculative long-ball fell to Skublak, who fired his shot off the left-post and into the back of the net. Skublak ran away in celebration before reaching into his sock and pulling out his real estate business card.

Moments later, the goal-scorer and proud realtor completed his brace, pouncing on a woeful slip from Abatneh and finishing from close-range.

Things went from bad to worse for Atlético Ottawa as they conceded another defensive howler. This time, goalkeeper Garissone Innocent spilled a low, two-handed save, resulting in a deflected own goal by Loïc Cloutier.

Then, Julian Altobelli made it 4-0 with a strong finish across the face of the goal, set up by a lovely chipped through-ball from Jimoh.

Timóteo grabbed a late consolation goal for Ottawa, cutting in off the right and finding the bottom-left corner.

However, it was far too little, too late, as Inter Toronto claimed a dominant 4-1 win.

With tonight's victory, Mauro Eustáquio's men move up to second in the CPL, ahead of Cavalry on goal difference. They're loving life post-rebrand, still unbeaten in the CPL through four matches.

Atlético Ottawa, on the other hand, have now lost three of their five CPL matches this season. Amid growing frustration, head coach Diego Mejía took responsibility for the performance, but reiterated, “This team never changes the identity.”

Next up, both clubs turn their attention to the Canadian Championship. On Tuesday, Atlético Ottawa make the cross-city trip to face Toronto FC at BMO Field. Meanwhile, Inter Toronto will host Ligue1 Québec side CS Saint-Laurent next weekend.
