Forge are making moves: Malcolm Duncan and Garven Metusala have left the club
BY TRUENORTHFOOT PUBLISHED ON JANUARY 7, 2025

Forge are making many moves ahead of the start of their 2025 campaign in the Concacaf Champions Cup.

The club shared an article on Tuesday confirming that Malcolm Duncan and Garven Metusala will be leaving the Hamilton side.

The difference is that last year was the third year of Forge’s traditional three-year cycle of roster construction, and this is the first year of the next three-year phase. So there is a much greater turnover than there was last year; particularly on the back end where significant rearguards Malcolm Duncan, Dom Samuel and Garven Metusala have moved on, and veteran back Elimane Cissé will not be available for a few weeks as he recovers from injury The ultra-dependable Jönsson is back, as is emerging Malik Owolabi-Belewu and talented Daniel Parra is under contract on loan from, ironically, Monterrey.

The article also confirms what we reported a few weeks ago: Forge has triggered Daniel Parra's loan option.

Free agents Mo Babouli and Brian Wright were spotted training with the Hammers on Monday.

Forge FC head coach Bobby Smyrniotis discussed potential new arrivals, mentioning some players “we know very well.” This could be a reference to Mo Babouli, who previously played for the Hammers for two seasons from 2020 to 2021.

"We’re in a very good spot," said Smyrniotis. "We’re adding a few guys this week who will be announced very soon. Some of those guys have already started training with us. I think we’re making the right moves, with players we know very well, along with some others who will come in from the outside."

In other news, captain Kyle Bekker is still officially out of contract, but based on videos published by Forge and quotes from the article, it's safe to say he will be back for at least one more season.

"That leadership core is still intact," Defender Alexander Achinioti-Jönsson said Monday. “I think it’s important to have David (Choinière), me, Bekks (Kyle Bekker) and Béni’s (Badibanga) option taken so our four captains are signed. I think that’s very important.”

Hungarian Ronaldo Homenski, who played a key role in helping St. Catharines Roma gain promotion to Division 1 of League1 Ontario, is in camp alongside several youth players, including Sigma FC’s Zayne Bruno and Oliver Clow.

One of the most noticeable players, apart from the veterans, is striker Maxim Filion, Forge's second-round pick in the 2024 CPL Draft.
