It's the final regular-season match for Pacific and Forge.
The Tridents have nothing to play for but pride after registering the worst season in CPL history.
The Hammers, meanwhile, will hope for a better result than whatever Cavalry get vs. Vancouver in two simultaneous games.
How Pacific come into the match
The Tridents will like nothing better than to get through this match-up and into the off-season. It has been another abysmal season for the boys in purple, and mid-season managerial appointment Terry Dunfield will look to restructure his side to his style of football. Pacific has shown flashes of potential in the latter stages of their season, but haven't turned it into results in their favour. This match-up also marks a farewell to long-time captain Josh Heard, who announced his retirement from professional football earlier this week. Heard brought passion, dedication, and most importantly, a championship to the Victoria, BC club and will be missed in the dressing room by the coaching staff and by the Trident faithful.
How Forge come into the match
The Hammers enter the match with momentum after defeating CF Montréal in the historic Canadian Championship final. Bobby Smyrniotis' side are in a tight race with Cavalry for the CPL Shield as they look to add more silverware in what has been a fantastic year for the Hamilton team. The top two clubs are level on points, but the Cavs have a noticeable advantage in goal difference, so Forge will virtually need a win against bottom-of-the-table Pacific and hope Cavalry lose or draw against Vancouver FC. The Cavs have led the table for the past month-and-a-half, but the Voyageurs Cup winners have already dashed CF Montréal's trophy hopes and will look to do the same to their eternal rivals.
Last time out
In the two clubs' last meeting, the Hammers secured three points against the Tridents, 3-0. Noah Jensen, Lucas Cavallini, and Ben Paton all scored in that match-up, in what was a dominant display by Forge and an honest indication of how the two clubs' seasons have gone. Time will tell whether Sunday's match further validates that truth.
