The Vancouver Whitecaps are expecting the largest crowd in the club's MLS history when Austin comes to town this Saturday.

The club says they're expecting over 30,000 fans at BC Place on May 4th, nearly 50 years to the day of the Caps' first ever match (May 5, 1974).

“As we approach this historic milestone, we are looking forward to recognizing the amazing achievements of our alumni and celebrating with over 30,000 of our fans on Saturday night at BC Place,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC chief executive officer in a press release.

The club will be recognized by both the City of Vancouver and the Province of British Columbia. Wednesday morning will see the City of Vancouver officially declare May 4 as Whitecaps FC 50th Anniversary Day. Then, on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. PT, the Province of British Columbia will honor Whitecaps FC, with a youth soccer clinic scheduled to take place on the parliament lawn afterward.

50 years in titles

In their history, the Vancouver Whitecaps have won 10 official titles. 7 league championships, and 3 domestic cups. They're the joint-most successful club in Canada, being tied at 10 total trophies with Toronto FC.
