The Vancouver Whitecaps have done it again. They took down Sporting Kansas City by a 3-0 scoreline last night!
Jesper Sørensen made two changes to the eleven that defeated FC Dallas by a 5-0 scoreline last week, with Mathías Laborda and Bruno Caicedo replacing Ralph Priso and Emmanuel Sabbi, the former suffering an ankle injury and thus not named to the squad. Canadian midfielder Jeevan Badwal returned from his head injury and was named to the bench.
The game kicked off, and both sides went back and forth through the opening minutes; Tristan Blackmon got Vancouver's first real chance after Ryan Gauld's corner found the defender, but the header went comfortably wide.
Kansas City would attack Vancouver's backline, as Or Blorian saw his strike from distance go well wide, making it KC's first shot of the night.
Vancouver would get the closest after 26 minutes of action: in-form fullback Édier Ocampo fired a shot across his body, but it would hit the post. After a disappointing touch from Thomas Müller, the hosts got the ball away from their box.
Eventually, Vancouver got their moment when Bruno Caicedo was bundled over by Justin Reynolds inside Kansas City's box, and Marcos de Oliveira had no hesitation and pointed straight to the penalty spot.
Up stepped German legend Thomas Müller, who buried the spot kick right down the middle for his eighth goal of the season, making it 1-0 for Vancouver with just five minutes remaining.

After the fourth official indicated four minutes of stoppage time, Bruno Caicedo delivered a beautiful cross towards the back post, but the unmarked Brian White hit the post with his header, marking a huge opportunity missed by the 'Caps.
After Bruno Caicedo was shown a yellow card for a foul, Marcos de Oliveira blew the whistle for half-time, with Vancouver leading by a single goal in Kansas City.
The second half began, and the Whitecaps forced the issue immediately.
Minutes after the restart, Vancouver pushed through Bruno Caicedo, and after his cross was deflected away from Brian White, Oliver Larraz played it across to White, who scored a nifty backheel flick to make it 2-0, marking White's 14th goal across all competitions this season.

Tate Johnson would take down Justin Reynolds on the right wing and be shown the game's second yellow card of the game.
Vancouver would make their first changes of the game two minutes after the hour mark, and Jeevan Badwal and Emmanuel Sabbi came in to replace Oliver Larraz and Bruno Caicedo.
Eight minutes later, Sam Adekugbe was handed some minutes, replacing Tate Johnson.
Stephen Afrifa would be shown Kansas City's first yellow card of the game after fouling Jeevan Badwal, which resulted in a dangerous free kick for Vancouver.
Thomas Müller would swing the free kick towards the backpost, but Tristan Blackmon couldn't keep his left-footed shot down from the narrow angle.
The Whitecaps kept pushing for another, and nearly got it through Ryan Gauld, who attempted a bicycle kick after the ball was pinballing in Kansas City's box, but the effort went wide.
With three minutes left of the 90, Cheikh Sabaly and Rayan Elloumi were brought in for Ryan Gauld and Brian White.
Both would immediately get into the action, and after Sabaly found Elloumi inside the area, the young striker saw his shot take two deflections before hitting the post.
After the resulting corner was cleared, Thomas Müller's first-time cross found Rayan Elloumi inside the six-yard box, who would tap it in for a 3-0 lead on the 90th-minute mark.

After five minutes were added on, Elloumi nearly added a fourth, but his acute-angle strike was comfortably saved by Stefan Cleveland following a cross from Emmanuel Sabbi.
Moisés Mosquera would be shown a yellow card for a foul on Thomas Müller. Marcos de Oliveira shortly blew for full time.
A good overall performance from the Whitecaps, who were clinical in front of goal, taking all but one of their big chances and taking a deserved three points back to Vancouver.
While the Whitecaps remain the same distance away from Nashville SC in the MLS Supporters' Shield race, they will be happy to learn that due to the Houston Dynamo tying the San Jose Earthquakes by a 0-0 scoreline, the 'Caps are now four points clear at the top of the MLS Western Conference standings, while also having a game in hand against the Chicago Fire in October.
Right now, the focus shifts to Wednesday, with the first leg of the Canadian Championship semi-finals on the horizon. The Vancouver Whitecaps will host CF Montréal at BC Place Stadium, with kickoff set for 7:00 pm PT / 10:00 pm ET.
