Everything you need to know about the Concacaf W Champions Cup
BY TRUENORTHFOOT PUBLISHED ON MAY 31, 2024

March 2024 saw Concacaf launch its first ever women's club competition, the Concacaf W Champions Cup, which is set to start in August of this year.

The Vancouver Whitecaps' semi-pro team will participate in it as League1 Canada women's inter-provincial winners last season.

With kick-off approaching, the region's organizing body has been releasing key details for the brand new tournament. Without further ado, everything you need to know about the Concacaf W Champions Cup.

Draw will be held on June 6, 2024

The draw for the inaugural season will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 8:00pm ET / 5:00pm PT. Fans can watch it on Concacaf's Youtube channel.

The Whitecaps will begin their new adventure in the preliminary round against Alianza Women FC of El Salvador. The draw will determine the host club for the single-legged match.

Pot 1: Vancouver Whitecaps FC (CAN1) and Alianza Women FC (SLV1)

Once that's decided, 5 pots are made with 2 clubs each:

Pot 2: NJ/NY Gotham FC (USA1) and San Diego Wave FC (USA2)
Pot 3: Portland Thorns FC (USA3) and Tigres Femenil (MEX1)
Pot 4: CF Monterrey Femenil (MEX2) and Club America Femenil (MEX3)
Pot 5: LD Alajuelense (CRC1) and Santa Fe FC (PAN1)
Pot 6: Frazsiers Whip Football Limited (JAM1) and the Preliminary Round winner (PR1)

That preliminary round spot in Pot 6 will be held by the winner of the Whitecaps-Alianza match.

In the draw, clubs in the same pot will be placed in different groups, meaning there will be 1 club from every pot in the 2 groups.

How does the format work?

The preliminary round will be played around August 13-15.

The 4-game group stage will then commence just a week later, with its last match-week being played in the middle of October.

Clubs will play 2 games at home and 2 away.

Once the group stage is done, the top 2 teams from each group advance to play in the semi-finals.

The 1st-placed team of Group A will face the 2nd-placed team of Group B, and viceversa.

The finals (semis, 3rd place match, final) will be held in a centralized venue to be announced at the end of May 2025.
