Jesper Sørensen's Vancouver Whitecaps take on Liga MX side Atlante FC at BC Place Stadium to kick off their Leagues Cup campaigns.

After Saturday's 1-1 draw against LAFC, the Whitecaps have failed to register a win in their previous three attempts and enter this game after securing back-to-back draws.

The top side in the MLS Western Conference, the 'Caps missed the 2025 Leagues Cup due to the entrance of San Diego FC, as Jesper Sørensen gets his first crack at this competition.

How Atlante FC enters this game

A side with a lot of history makes its Leagues Cup debut.

Formed in 1916, the Mexico City-based side spent 12 years in the second division of Mexican football following a 2014 relegation, returning to Mexico's top flight ahead of the 2026 Liga MX Apertura campaign after securing Mazatlán FC's license.

They've played three games, winning, tying, and losing once, with the most recent result being a huge 3-2 win over Mexican giants Cruz Azul.

Atlante FC will be an interesting opponent for Vancouver tomorrow night, as the Leagues Cup debutants look to pull another shock off after their most recent result.

Head-to-Head

This will be the inaugural meeting between the two sides, but this won't be the first time these sides have faced teams in the Liga MX and MLS.

For Atlante, they head into this one with a 3-2-2 record against Major League Soccer opposition, while they also hold a 1-1-0 record against Canadian sides, having taken on the then-Montréal Impact in the 2009 Concacaf Champions League.

Vancouver currently holds a 1-5-7 record against Mexican opposition. However, the Whitecaps should be relieved that last year's Champions Cup run saw them eliminate both Monterrey CF and UNAM Pumas on away goals after grabbing ties across the four games, before an unfortunate final against Cruz Azul.

Players to Watch

Vancouver's man up top will be searching for a goal tomorrow night, as Brian White enters this match having not scored in his last four matches, which is frustrating for any striker, but is also mainly due to the lack of chances White has received. Because of this, he's been very quiet during this period, but that can all change tomorrow if one of his shots finds the back of the net, because once one goes in, the confidence will return for Vancouver's second all-time top scorer.

One of Atlante FC's attacking threats will be Ecuadorian international Jhojan Julio. The 28-year-old already had Liga MX experience before his arrival, having played for Club Tijuana and Querétaro FC. So far, he's been electric, recording one goal and two assists in three games, including grabbing a goal and an assist against Cruz Azul. A player who can play as a winger, striker, and attacking midfielder, the right-footed Julio has been utilized as a striker in Miguel "Piojo" Herrera's 5-3-2 formation. Can Julio produce another big performance to lead Atlante FC to another historic win?
