The Canadian Men’s National Team will face Romania and Wales in international friendlies on September 5 and 9, respectively.

The first game will be in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, at the 55,000-capacity Arena Nationala.

It will be Canada’s first-ever match against the European side.

“Romania are a really strong team that finished top of a difficult group at Euro 2024.” said Jesse Marsch, head coach of the National Team in a statement. “It will be yet another important challenge for our team on the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”

At the time of writing, Canada has added yet another top-40 national team to their calendar. In 2024, they played 10 games against teams in the top 40 of the FIFA Men’s Rankings.

After defeating Suriname in the Concacaf Nations League, the Canadian Men’s National Team climbed to 31st in the FIFA Rankings, marking their highest-ever position in history.

The second friendly will take place in Swansea on September 9, as Canada will face Wales.

It will be the team's fourth all-time meeting with the European side, having previously played twice in 1986 (winning 2-0 and losing 3-0) in Toronto and Vancouver, respectively, and once in 2004 in Wrexham, where Les Rouges lost 1-0.

"We’re excited to be playing another high-quality opponent in Wales in September." said head coach Jesse Marsch in a statement. "Most of their players are playing in the Premier League and Championship which will make for an excellent test for our group."

What 2025 looks like for the CanMNT

Canada will face Mexico in the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League Finals semi-final on March 20 in Los Angeles. Depending on the result, they will take on either the USA or Panama in the final or third-place play-off on March 23.

From June 12 to July 7, Les Rouges will participate in the Concacaf Gold Cup.

With the September window fully booked, Canada Soccer could still schedule friendlies for the October and November windows, though it remains to be seen.
