The 'Caps are on the road for the first time in MLS play this year as they begin a 5-game month, which includes the 2 Champions Cup matches against the Seattle Sounders.
For now, they must focus on what happens tomorrow as the Vancouver Whitecaps travel south of the border to take on the Portland Timbers, who have a lot of history with the Whitecaps.
Here's everything you need to know.
Vancouver Whitecaps
So far, so good for Jesper Sørensen and his Whitecaps; they've recorded 3 wins and a draw to start the season, with the most recent victory coming in a 3-0 trashing of Toronto FC.
Vancouver's defence has played a key role in their early-season success, with Yohei Takaoka and his backline keeping four clean sheets in the opening four matches.
Goals have also been forthcoming, with German superstar Thomas Müller finally opening his account for the season with a brace against Toronto.
Portland TImbers
For Phil Neville's Timbers, it has been a mixed start to the MLS season — one win and one defeat leaving them 12th in the Western Conference.
Their campaign opened with a 3-2 home victory over the Columbus Crew, with Ariel Lassiter netting a winner in the 88th minute.
The good feeling didn't last long, however, as the Colorado Rapids handed them a 2-0 defeat in Commerce City.

Overall head-to-head
The last meeting between these two clubs came on September 24th, when the 'Caps managed a 1-1 draw on a night of heavy rotation.
The last time they faced off at Providence Park was on opening day of 2025, where a Jayden Nelson masterclass saw Vancouver dismantle the Timbers 4-1.
In 65 meetings, the Whitecaps have come out on top on 23 occasions, with Portland claiming 25 wins and 17 matches ending in a draw.
Portland's biggest winning margin in this fixture has been three goals, achieved on three separate occasions — once in 2007 during the USL First Division Playoffs and twice during the 2014 MLS season.
Vancouver's biggest win came in the 2024 MLS Playoffs, when the 'Caps produced a stunning 5-0 demolition of Portland, with Ryan Gauld bagging a hat-trick and Brian White and Stuart Armstrong adding to the tally. It remains the largest margin of victory in the history of this fixture.
Speaking of Gauld, the Scotsman is also the all-time top scorer in this fixture with eight goals, while teammate Brian White sits just behind on seven.
Players to watch
James Pantemis makes for an interesting storyline heading into this fixture. After limited gametime with CF Montréal, he was handed an opportunity by the Portland Timbers and seized it, becoming the club's first-choice goalkeeper in 2025 and displacing Canadian international Maxime Crépeau in the process. His performances were a key factor in Portland reaching the playoffs, and strong enough to thrust him into national team conversations. One particularly notable trait was his penalty-saving ability — he stopped three out of six spot kicks in 2025, including two in a single match against Nashville SC. If Portland are to shut down Vancouver's attack, Pantemis will likely be central to it.
Yohei Takaoka has been integral to the way Jesper Sørensen has built his Whitecaps side. The Japanese shot-stopper was a finalist for MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2025 after recording an impressive 14 clean sheets, and has already added four more in the opening four games of 2026. He produced an outstanding save to deny José Cifuentes in Vancouver's most recent outing, but his value to the team goes beyond shot-stopping — it's his passing that sets him apart. In the 2025 MLS regular season, Vancouver scored 13 goals from sequences in which Takaoka had a touch without the opposition regaining possession. He also produced a moment of magic in the postseason, threading an absolute gem of a pass through to Emmanuel Sabbi, who scored as the Whitecaps eliminated LAFC in a tense penalty shootout. Don't be surprised if Takaoka plays a direct role in Vancouver's goalscoring again tomorrow night.
Availability
David Da Costa, Omir Fernandez, Zac McGraw, and Juan Mosquera remain sidelined for Portland, while Jimer Fory is also unavailable after picking up a red card in the 2-0 defeat to Colorado. Alex Bonetig and Diego Chará are both listed as questionable with lower-body injuries. On a more positive note for the Timbers, Adam Susman reports that new winger Alexander Aravena has had his work visa approved and will be available for selection tomorrow night.
Vancouver continue to be without Sam Adekugbe, Ryan Gauld, Belal Halbouni, and Ranko Veselinović through injury, while Sebastian Schonlau is week-to-week with a calf issue. Bruno Caicedo and Cheikh Sabaly remain unavailable for non-injury-related reasons. Emmanuel Sabbi returns having served his one-match suspension, and Liam Mackenzie is back from international duty with the Canadian U-20 side. Kenji Cabrera is also set to return after missing last week's match with a lower-body injury.
