The Vancouver Whitecaps handled business at home, defeating Toronto FC 3-0 with little fuss.

It was one-way traffic from the first whistle to the last: Thomas Müller got things started from the penalty spot before adding a second from a set piece. Minutes later, Brian White made it three with a tap-in from another dead-ball situation.

The home side lined up in a 4-2-3-1, with Yohei Takaoka in goal, a back four of Mathías Laborda, Ralph Priso, Tristan Blackmon, and Édier Ocampo, Andrés Cubas and Sebastian Berhalter in midfield, Thomas Müller as the attacking midfielder, Jeevan Badwal and Aziel Jackson on the wings, and Brian White leading the line.

Toronto set up in a 4-4-2, with Luka Gavran in goal, a back four of Kobe Franklin, Walker Zimmerman, Kosi Thompson, and Richie Laryea, a midfield of Dániel Sallói, Jonathan Osorio, Alonso Coello, and José Cifuentes, and Đorđe Mihailović and Derrick Etienne Jr. as a front two.

Toronto began with the ball for the opening five minutes before ceding possession to the Whitecaps for the remainder of the match.

Vancouver, in control of the ball, carved out some promising positions inside the box but were unable to get a shot away.

In the 24th minute, Aziel Jackson found space on the wing, drove into the box, and attempted to beat Walker Zimmerman. The Toronto defender used his body and fouled the winger, handing the Whitecaps a penalty.

Up stepped Thomas Müller, who sent Luka Gavran the wrong way and fired into the opposite corner to put his side ahead on the night.

Vancouver kept the pressure on, with Tristan Blackmon, Brian White, and Mathías Laborda all testing their luck in front of goal.

From a corner, Laborda headed the ball across the box to find Müller, who had a wide-open net to tap into for his second of the night, making it 2-0.

Just five minutes later, and again from a corner, the ball dropped loose in the box and Brian White was on hand to convert, making it 3-0 and putting the contest to bed.

With the goal, White became the Whitecaps' second all-time leading scorer, netting his 80th for the club to move past John Catliff.

The first half came to a close, and with it, two changes for Toronto as Kobe Franklin and Kosi Thompson were replaced by Raheem Edwards and Zane Monlouis at the break.

The second half was nowhere near the dominant display we witnessed from the 'Caps in the first, though Toronto again showed little intent going forward.

Richie Laryea burst past two players down the right channel and found himself in a promising position to deliver a cross, but Ralph Priso tracked back, dispossessed him, won the foul, and earned a standing ovation from everyone inside BC Place — the travelling TFC supporters excepted.

José Cifuentes registered Toronto's only shot on target of the night, with his effort comfortably saved by Yohei Takaoka to preserve the clean sheet. Derrick Etienne Jr. had a go from over 35 yards out, though the Japanese goalkeeper was barely troubled.

Vancouver are now undefeated in nine games against the Reds, with the Ontario side's last victory in this fixture dating back to 2020.

Toronto remain winless after two games to start the MLS season, having fallen 3-2 to FC Dallas last weekend, while the Whitecaps are two from two after their 1-0 league opening win over Real Salt Lake.

Next up for the 'Caps is a trip to Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers on Saturday, March 7, with kickoff at 10:30 pm ET / 7:30 pm PT. Toronto, meanwhile, visit Cincinnati on Sunday, March 8, kicking off at 7:00 pm ET / 4:00 pm PT.
