Time to hit the road for Jesper Sørensen’s Vancouver Whitecaps.
His side begins a daunting eight-match road trip, with their first stop coming in California against the LA Galaxy.
Here’s everything you need to know.
How LA Galaxy enter this match
It was a much-needed win last week for Greg Vanney’s LA Galaxy, as they defeated Real Salt Lake 2-1 at home. Marco Reus proved to be the difference-maker, scoring a crucial brace with a free kick and a penalty.
Like the Vancouver Whitecaps, the Galaxy have been dealing with several injuries, which have contributed to their slow start and current position outside the playoff spots.
A win tomorrow night could go a long way in shifting the momentum of their season.
How the Vancouver Whitecaps enter this match
It was a strong send-off for the 'Caps, who closed out their long homestand with a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids. Cheikh Sabaly opened the scoring before Brian White added a brace to cancel out Rafael Navarro’s goal.
It was also a match defined by missed opportunities, with the Whitecaps squandering seven big chances. That is an area they will need to sharpen as they head out on the road.
Despite a historically poor record at Dignity Health Sports Park, this Vancouver side looks stronger than ever and will aim to carry their momentum into a difficult stretch away from home.
Head-to-head
In the latest meeting between these two sides, it was one to forget for Jesper Sørensen and the Vancouver Whitecaps, as the LA Galaxy ran out 3-0 winners at home in July last year. Matheus Nascimento opened the scoring before a brace from Joseph Paintsil sealed the result, while Jayden Nelson was sent off late to compound a difficult night.
Historically, the matchup has favoured the Galaxy, who have recorded 18 wins and 7 draws, compared to Vancouver’s 13 wins across 38 meetings.
Their biggest win came in the inaugural clash, a 4-0 victory highlighted by a brace from Landon Donovan, alongside goals from Sean Franklin and Adam Cristman.
Vancouver’s biggest wins have come on two occasions, both 3-0 results in 2020 and 2022. The 2020 victory featured goals from Lucas Cavallini and a brace from Fredy Montero, while Julián Araujo was sent off in the first half. The 2022 win was powered by goals from Ryan Gauld, Pedro Vite, and Tosaint Ricketts.
Players to watch
At 36 and still a major threat, Marco Reus has been a bright spot in an LA Galaxy side that has not quite met expectations. After recording 8 goals and 8 assists in his first full season, Reus has carried that form into 2026 with 5 goals and 4 assists in 15 matches. He was the driving force behind the win over Real Salt Lake and will likely be central again if the Galaxy are to get a result.
On the other end of the age spectrum, 21-year-old Bruno Caicedo has already made an impression with the Vancouver Whitecaps. With one goal and two assists in four matches, despite just one start, the Ecuadorian has quickly turned heads. His pace and dribbling ability have added a new dimension to Vancouver’s attack, and he will be looking to build on that strong start as he pushes to become a regular in Jesper Sørensen’s plans.
Availability
For the LA Galaxy, Julián Aude, João Klauss, and Matheus Nascimento are all confirmed unavailable for Greg Vanney, while Erik Thommy and Maya Yoshida are listed as questionable.
For the Vancouver Whitecaps, Sam Adekugbe, Ryan Gauld, Belal Halbouni, Ralph Priso, and Sebastian Schonlau all remain out for Jesper Sørensen. However, Adekugbe is nearing a return after getting 45 minutes with Whitecaps 2, while Priso is reportedly ahead of schedule and could be back sooner than expected.
