Cavalry and Pacific will face off for the fourth time in 2026 on Sunday in Langford.

After meeting three times within the span of seven weeks in April and May, the sides will once again face off with three critical points on the line.

Cavalry have been victorious in all three meetings between the clubs this year. Both sides' CPL seasons began on April 5, with Cavalry taking a 2-1 road victory. May 9 saw the sides meet in the Canadian Championship preliminary round, where Cavalry once again emerged as road victors by a 3-1 scoreline. Most recently, Cavalry hosted on May 25, where they secured a 3-0 result, with all three goals coming in the second half.

How Pacific come into the match

Pacific sit last in the CPL table with a 1-7-12 record. Nonetheless, the Tridents own the second-best three-match form in recent CPL play, as they are the only team other than Cavalry to have not suffered a loss in their previous three matches.

A playoff berth is an unrealistic expectation for the club at this point, as they would be mathematically eliminated with a loss to Cavalry and a Vancouver FC win or draw against Inter Toronto. Optimistically, however, Pacific may be able to pull themselves out of last place, with each of the three teams ahead of them in the table only managing one win in their last five contests.

Pacific won their first match of the season in a dramatic 4-3 instant classic over the Wanderers and settled for a scoreless draw against Atletico Ottawa to open the month. Most recently, the Tridents played to a 3-3 draw midweek against Inter Toronto, but held three separate leads throughout the match and conceded a late equalizer in the 87th minute.

How Cavalry come into the match

Cavalry sit at the sharp end of the CPL standings, as their 14-4-2 record has them on 46 points, four clear of second-placed Forge. The Cavs have won six of their last seven, with the only points lost coming in a 1-1 draw to Supra.

Their incredible form in 2026 has prompted conversation across the country about their potential to set CPL records. With eight matches to play, the Albertan side are 12 goals shy of Atletico Ottawa's 2025 season-long record of 52. If the side manage to continue their 2.00 goals per game pace for the remainder of the season, they would end with a record-setting 56.

Forge own the CPL record for fewest goals conceded over a season with 22, but Cavalry have conceded a mere 12 goals through 20 matches. This trend puts them on pace to concede just under 17 over the course of the 28-match season. Remarkably, Cavalry have not allowed more than one goal against in CPL play all season, with their two losses coming in the form of 1-0 scorelines.

Availability

Pacific have been splitting starts for goalkeepers Sean Melvin and Eleias Himaras over their last several matches. With Himaras getting the nod last Wednesday, Melvin would be slated to start Sunday's match assuming the trend continues.

Taras Gomulka has spent the last two matches on the bench for Terry Dunfield after logging 80 or more minutes in all but two of Pacific's first 18 matches. Likewise, Josh Belluz has been absent from Pacific's lineup for the same span, raising questions ahead of Sunday's match.

Max Piepgrass has made three appearances and one start for Pacific since joining the side, but has been absent for the club's last three matches, casting doubt over his availability against his former club.

Ali Musse was absent for Cavalry's last match against Halifax for personal reasons, and isn't expected to be held out of this contest for any injury-related reasons as a result.

Fellow winger Goteh Ntignee has rejoined the Cavs for training, but was not included in their lineup last time out. Considering the recent form of Nathaniel Edwards, expect Ntignee to appear on the bench for Cavalry tomorrow if he is selected for the roster.

Michael Baldisimo has been added to the Philippines U23 squad for the 2026 Asian Games and is not expected to return to Cavalry until next month.

Finally, Cavalry announced the signing of 23-year-old winger Hassan Ayari, who has spent time with Adam Pearlman and Nathaniel Edwards in the past during their time in the Toronto FC system. Ayari's availability for Sunday is undetermined, but a bench appearance would be most likely if he is included in the roster.
