It's time for this week's final match in the Northern Super League: the Vancouver Rise host the Ottawa Rapid in a game with major playoff implications.

It was absolutely heartbreaking for the Rise; a late Julia Benati stunner saw the Halifax Tides grab a 1-0 win at Swangard Stadium last week.

Now sitting in fifth place, the Rise recently dismissed head coach Anja Heiner-Møller, which shocked many, largely because of the timing.

With interim head coach Iain Darbyshire taking the reins, this match is crucial for Vancouver, who sit a single point away from Halifax, whom they can overtake thanks to the Calgary Wild's 1-0 win yesterday.

How the Ottawa Rapid enter this match

It's been a rough spell for the Rapid: they have gone five matches without a win; the Montréal Roses defeated them by a 3-2 scoreline in their most recent match after the Rapid scored two goals to make it 2-2.

Now dropping to third place, this game is particularly important for the Rapid, with a loss set to see them fall behind the Roses in the race for the regular season title.

With head coach Katrine Søndergaard Pedersen set to depart the club at the end of the season, Ottawa will be looking to give her a proper send-off, so that will include beating the Rise and keeping them in the Supporters' Shield contention.

The most recent matchup between these two sides was memorable for the Rise, but painful for the Rapid.

At TD Place Stadium, Vancouver ran out 5-1 winners over Ottawa, largely thanks to a great performance from Alex Lamontagne that saw her grab two goals, an assist, and earn a penalty that Camila Reyes converted.

The Rapid still hold the lead in the series, winning five and drawing once, while the Rise won the other four times.

For the Rise, they are confirmed to be missing Kennedy Faulknor, Shannon Woeller and Ariel Young due to injuries, and Maithé López due to international duty. Jaime Perrault, Quinn, Camila Reyes, and Nikki Stanton are in doubt for this game.

For the Rapid, Kayla Adamek, Emily Amano, Elise Bell, DB Pridham, and Olivia Scott are all injured and will not be available for the visitors.
