Cruz Azul visits Langley to face its fifth-ever Canadian club: Vancouver FC.

The Mexican outfit has previously faced the three Canadian MLS clubs — Toronto FC, CF Montréal, and the Vancouver Whitecaps — as well as Forge FC.

Their record is favourable: from nine matches, they’ve won six and lost only once — to TFC.

Their earliest encounters came in the 2010–11 Concacaf Champions League, when they were drawn in the same group as Toronto and faced each other twice. The Canadian side won the first match 2–1 at BMO Field before the teams played to a goalless draw in the return fixture a month later in Mexico.

Their most recent games against Toronto came in the 2021 edition of the competition, where the Mexicans had no issues over two legs in the quarter-finals, winning 4–1 on aggregate.

A year later, Cruz Azul were drawn with Forge in the Round of 16, marking the first-ever appearance in the competition for the Canadian Premier League side. The Liga MX outfit won the first leg 1–0 before closing the series with a 3–1 victory at the Azteca.

In the following round, Cruz Azul faced Montréal, winning the first leg 1–0 before playing to a 1–1 draw in the second at the Big O.

Fast forward three years to the final, Cruz Azul hosted the Vancouver Whitecaps, dismantling them 5–0 to secure their seventh Concacaf title.
