A recap of the CPL's roster updates this week
BY CPL NEWS PUBLISHED ON JANUARY 25, 2023 (MODIFIED ON JAN 25, 2023)
It's been a busy week in the CPL.

Let's take a look at all the signings, re-signings, outbound transfers, etc...

Vancouver FC signs fullback Marcus Simmons

The expansion side has announced their 8th player of the roster ahead of 2023 season. Simmons, 22, joins the Vancouver side after recording 24 league appearances with the now-folded FC Edmonton last year. He recorded one assist in his time with the Eddies. “I am excited for this new opportunity with Vancouver FC,” said Simmons (H/T canpl.ca).

York United signs Dutch midfielder Oussama Alou

York continues to add to their roster as they sign midfielder Oussama Alou. The 21-year-old joins the club on a one-year deal with club options until 2025. Alou becomes York's 7th signing of the off-season after Dutch defender Faye, midfielders Elijah Adekugbe, Jérémy Gagnon-Laparé, Markiyan Voytsekhovskyy and Clément Bayiha, and forward Brian Wright.

Cavalry extends contracts of Ali Musse and Myer Bevan

Cavalry announced this Tuesday that the club had extended both Ali Musse's and Myer Bevan's contracts to 2024, with the option to extend into 2025. Ali Musse was Cavalry's top goal contributor last season, recording 11 G/A (7 goals and 4 assists). Myer Bevan recorded 6 goals in 14 appearances. The New Zealand native was sidelined for a big portion of the season after he suffered an injury. Let's hope next season goes even better, and who knows, maybe he can score another banger against an MLS team in the Canadian Championship...

The Wanderers sign English midfielder Callum Watson

The Halifax side announced the signing of midfielder Callum Watson to a one-year deal with an option for an additional year. Watson, 22, joins the CPL side after playing in the NCAA for Creighton University in 2022. “Callum is an active player who has the ability to play any role in central midfield and is coming off a wonderful year at college,” Wanderers head coach Patrice Gheisar said. “Along with Andre Rampersad, Aidan Daniels and Lorenzo Callegari, Callum adds to a midfield we are building that is technical and mobile. He’s self-motivated and sets a high bar for himself which I look forward to seeing in Halifax.” (H/T canpl.ca)

Pacific signs left-winger Ayman Sellouf

The 2021 champs announced the signing of Dutch forward Ayman Sellouf, who most recently played for FC Utrecht in the Netherlands. “We are excited to add another young international player of his quality to our team. Ayman is extremely positive about the opportunity, he’s got great potential, and we look forward to welcoming him to Pacific,” says Merriman. (H/T canpl.ca)

Ballou Tabla is transferred to Turkish 2nd division side Manisa FK

Atlético Ottawa reached an agreement with the Turkish side for the transfer of forward Ballou Tabla on a permanent deal. Information and details on the transfer fee weren't released, but reporter Dylan Dyson stated that the fee is one of the highest in CPL history. The deal also includes appearance & performance-based bonuses, along with a sell-on fee for the Ottawa-based club.

Tabla signed a 2.5-year deal with the Turkish side.

Daniel Krutzen joins USL side Phoenix Rising FC

Daniel Krutzen, arguably one of the best players in CPL history, has joined USL side Phoenix Rising FC. Krutzen, 26, won 3 league titles with Forge (2019, 2020 & 2022). The center-back was on trial with the Vancouver Whitecaps, though Vanni Sartini opted with not signing him, stating that the club already had a full squad. With this announcement, Forge will likely be looking to sign a center-back this off-season.

And that's it for the recap. Any other announcement will be added here.
