CPL week 10: QUICK PREVIEW
BY TRUENORTHFOOT PUBLISHED ON JUNE 16, 2023
The CPL is back tonight.

In this preview, we'll tell you everything you need to know about this weekend's match-ups.

Valour FC vs. Forge FC

Date: Friday, June 16
Kick-off time: 7:00pm CT / 8:00pm ET
Where to watch: OneSoccer, FuboTV, Telus ch. 980

Kicking us off is Valour hosting Forge at IG Field. The 2 teams will face off for the 2nd time this season after a 3-2 win by the Hamilton side on the 5th match-day. In that match, Valour took the lead through Kian Williams in the 30th minute, only for Jordan Hamilton to tie things up for the home side just 3 minutes later. In the 2nd half, Kyle Bekker gave Forge the go-ahead goal while Abdou Samaké took advantage of bad defending to level the match at 2-2. Forge quickly got another goal as Kwasi Poku headed the ball straight to Rayane Yesli who could do nothing as the ball had already crossed the line.

Valour will look to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat at the Wanderers Grounds vs. the HFX Wanderers. The Winnipeg side is currently in 5th place but level on points with 6th-placed Halifax. Forge will be hoping to end their 3-game winless run at a stadium they have recently struggled at.

Take a look at the all-time head-to-head record between these two teams:
Forge FC: 8 wins
Valour FC: 6 wins
1 draw

While Forge has had the upper hand, the last 5 matches at IG Field have all been won by Valour.

Atlético Ottawa vs. Vancouver FC

Date: Saturday, June 17
Kick-off time: 2:00pm ET / 11:00am PT
Where to watch: OneSoccer, FuboTV, Telus ch. 980

The reigning regular season champions and the newcomers will meet for a 2nd time on Saturday. Last time out, Ottawa beat Vancouver 5-0 in Langley. Bassett, Salter, Verhoeven, Verhoven & Bahous scored the goals in the massive away win.

Vancouver will be looking to get their 2nd ever win in any competition. Their only win in history came vs. York in Toronto, where Hundal and Sandoval scored to beat the North York side 2-1.

HFX Wanderers vs. Cavalry FC

Date: Saturday, June 17
Kick-off time: 3:00pm AT / 12:00pm MT
Where to watch: OneSoccer

It will be the 16th all-time meeting between these two sides, a fixture which has been heavily dominated by Cavalry.

All-time, Cavalry has won 8 times, drawn 6, and lost just once. The last time these two clubs met was earlier this season when they drew 2-2 in Calgary.

Wanderers have a chance to go above the play-off line and tie Cavalry in points (12)

Pacific FC vs. York United FC

Date: Sunday, June 18
Kick-off time: 1:00pm PT / 4:00pm ET
Where to watch: OneSoccer, FuboTV, Telus ch. 980

The 2021 champions and York United will face off for 16th time in all competitions. Surprisingly, York has the upper hand in this fixture, having 5 wins compared to Pacific's 4 wins.

Pacific can extend its fantastic run and increase its lead atop the table to 5 points, should other results go their way. The Tridents have looked like the best team in the league by far, and are surely the favourites to go and win it all. York are on a 5-game unbeaten run, with 4 of those being wins. The Nine Stripes will move to 1st place should they win this match.
