Bombshell: Forge has signed reigning league PPOTY winner Brian Wright
BY TRUENORTHFOOT PUBLISHED ON JANUARY 8, 2025 (MODIFIED ON JAN 8, 2025)

Forge FC has announced the signing of 29-year-old striker and reigning Players' Player of the Year winner Brian Wright on a multi-year contract.

Wright spent the past two seasons with provincial rivals York United. In 2024, he had a standout year, scoring 9 goals and providing 6 assists in 25 matches across all competitions—a significant improvement from 2023, when he managed just 2 goals and 2 assists in 29 appearances.

Last season, the 29-year-old forward was named Player of the Year by his fellow Canadian Premier League players, winning the vote by a commanding margin of 110 points. To put that into perspective, only 136 points separated the 2nd and 10th spots on the list.

Wright is poised to take on the role of starting striker for Forge, a team that has struggled to find the back of the net consistently since Kwasi Poku's departure to Belgium's RWD Molenbeek.

The striker previously played for Atlético Ottawa, netting 14 goals and recording 3 assists across 53 matches during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He was a key figure in the squad's journey to securing their first-ever CPL Shield.

In other news, Mo Babouli, who also played for York United, was spotted training with the Hammers along with Wright.
