A brilliant day for the Whitecaps!

The Vancouver Whitecaps had a great day in front of goal last night, dismantling FC Dallas 5-0.

Jesper Sørensen made three changes to the side that was defeated on Wednesday by a single goal against the Houston Dynamo, as Ralph Priso and Thomas Müller replaced Mathías Laborda and Cheikh Sabaly, with Ryan Gauld shifting to the right wing and Emmanuel Sabbi moving to the left wing. The final change came with Brian White's return from a hamstring injury, replacing Rayan Elloumi in the starting eleven, which meant Liam Mackenzie was removed from the bench. New signing Sebastián Ramírez wasn't named on the matchday squad, but was at BC Place signing some autographs and should be good for next week.

Shaq Moore received the game's first yellow card after barging into Thomas Müller after Emmanuel Sabbi had won a free kick.

After earning the game's first corner, Ryan Gauld's corner was cleared away, but it fell into the path of Emmanuel Sabbi, whose low shot blazed past traffic and into the bottom left corner, opening the scoring after eleven minutes.

After Sabbi's fourth goal of the season, Vancouver pushed for the second goal, as Édier Ocampo saw a shot saved by Jonathan Sirois.

Eventually, Vancouver had the next big chance and took full advantage, as after a very nice long ball from Tristan Blackmon found Édier Ocampo, the Colombian fullback pulled it across for Brian White, who made no mistake from close range.

After Ran Binyamin was booked for Dallas, Brian White would nearly make it three, but he couldn't keep his header down.

Another Ryan Gauld corner was whipped in, and after Oliver Larraz saw his header blocked, the ball perfectly popped up to Brian White, who made it 3-0 off a beautiful volley.

Dallas would get their best chance of the game, with a ball from Christian Cappis finding a wide-open Logan Farrington, who struck the post on a one-on-one chance against Yohei Takaoka.

A moment of debate happened shortly after, as Sam Sarver fell over after some contact from Ralph Priso, who slipped and caught a little bit of Sarver inside the penalty box, but Malik Badawi rightfully didn't call for a spot kick, and the VAR agreed, much to the frustration of Eric Quill and the FC Dallas bench.

After Joshua Torquato was shown a yellow card, the referee indicated six minutes of added time.

Unfortunately, Vancouver would suffer another injury, as Ralph Priso twisted his ankle when helping his side defensively, but he told the Whitecaps staff to wait for the break to take him off.

That would work out in the end: Andrés Cubas clipped a nice ball in that was misjudged by Jonathan Sirois, resulting in Édier Ocampo heading the ball over the former CF Montréal shot-stopper from an acute angle, as Vancouver went up by a huge 4-0 scoreline.

A couple of minutes later, Badawi blew for half-time, and for the second time this season, the Whitecaps took a 4-0 lead at the break.

While FC Dallas made four changes at the interval, including bringing on star Croatian Petar Musa, Ralph Priso was withdrawn for Mathías Laborda.

Ryan Gauld would nearly find the back of the net: After some good passing between him and Emmanuel Sabbi, the captain dragged his narrow-angle strike just wide of the far post.

Édier Ocampo's great performance saw him attempt an acrobatic effort after a corner kick that was always going off target.

After Lalas Abubakar was shown a yellow card for fouling Andrés Cubas, Emmanuel Sabbi and Brian White were handed some deserved rest, as Bruno Caicedo and Rayan Elloumi entered the frame.

It would be Caicedo's moment shortly after: Off a one-two with Thomas Müller, the Ecuadorian saw his side-foot shot deflect off a Dallas defender and into the net for a fifth goal of the game.

The fourth change for Jesper Sørensen saw Ryan Gauld make way for Cheikh Sabaly, as the captain had a great performance despite no goals or assists to show for it.

Édier Ocampo nearly secured a brace, as after a nifty ball from Sabaly found the overlapping Colombian, he dragged his shot narrowly wide of the far corner.

Sam Adekugbe received some game time with seven regulation minutes left, as he replaced Tate Johnson.

Dallas would appeal for another penalty after Bruno Caicedo made contact with Kaick Ferreira in the aftermath of a corner, and despite VAR calling him to the monitor, Malik Badawi did not give the visitors a spot kick, which looked to be the correct call once again, as while Caicedo did get some contact, it was never enough for a penalty.

Five minutes would be added on, but it was extended to six minutes due to the VAR check.

Mathías Laborda would receive the only booking for the Whitecaps, as his challenge on Kaick resulted in a yellow card for the Uruguayan defender.

It was a quiet night for Yohei Takaoka, but he did make one save, and it was a nice one to deny Petar Musa from distance.

After the added time was officially up, Malik Badawi signalled for full time, as the Vancouver Whitecaps moved back to the top of the Western Conference following Houston's 2-1 loss to St. Louis City SC.

While everyone had a good performance, three players in particular stood out from the rest.

First was Brian White, who obviously scored two goals, including a scintillating volley. It was an important brace for White, who scored his first goals since the first leg of the Canadian Championship against Cavalry FC back in early July.

The second was Édier Ocampo, who had the important goal and assist, but he was also unbelievable in the defensive aspect of the game, showing how far his game has grown since arriving from Atlético Nacional back in 2024.

The third and final player was Emmanuel Sabbi, who has looked like a new player since recovering from a sports hernia injury; statistically, he's recorded two goals and one assist in his last four games. On the field, Sabbi looked very confident today, from his ball control and dribbling to even having the confidence to try a rainbow flick in the first half. It looks like last season's Sabbi is slowly coming back out after a difficult first half of the season.

Brian White spoke on the importance of this win in the press conference, as the Whitecaps have looked a bit shaky before last night's win.

The Whitecaps will hit the road next week for one match, taking on Sporting Kansas City at Sporting Park on Saturday, with kickoff set for 5:30 pm PT / 7:30 pm CT.
