Cavalry took their fourth win in five matches on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 3-1 win over Atlético Ottawa.

Outside of their typical formation, an attacking quartet composed of Nathaniel Edwards, Tobias Warschewski, Ali Musse, and Caniggia Elva signalled the home side's high-scoring intent well before the match kicked off. Captain Sergio Camargo slid back to the defensive midfield alongside Harry Paton, with Cavalry's typical back four rounding out the starting eleven.

Atlético Ottawa lined up in a 4-4-2 for Gustavo Leal's first visit to ATCO Field, but new signing Nicolas Chateau was often left high as the lone striker.

Other than a threatening free kick for the visitors in the opening 10 minutes, Cavalry were in clear control of the pace of play for the first quarter-hour. Two big Cavalry misses were quickly made up for thanks to Nathaniel Edwards, who finished on a cross from Adam Pearlman. Edwards now has four goals in his last eight matches, making up for the long-term absence of Goteh Ntignee.

Moments later, Nathan Ingham produced the runaway highlight of the match, powering an effort from box to box to find Warschewski, who was able to chip the lead-doubling goal past Christopher Kalongo and into the yawning cage.

Atlético Ottawa would respond shortly after, taking advantage of a lapse in focus by the Cavs' defence. Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau was given ample space at the top of the box and made no mistake, blasting his third goal in three matches into the top right corner and past Nathan Ingham.

Atlético Ottawa would round out the first half holding a slight edge in possession, but Cavalry, as they often do, were able to dictate the direction of play without the ball.

The second half saw the Cavs add to their lead inside the first 10 minutes. Tobias Warschewski corralled an Ali Musse cross into the box, which went uncleared by the visiting backline. Now up by two, Cavalry were comfortable dropping back slightly and allowing play to seesaw back and forth.

Ottawa were given a glimmer of hope when referee Yusri Rudolf initially awarded a penalty to the visitors, but a successful FVS challenge from the Cavalry bench overturned the decision.

With the result, Cavalry have now taken all nine possible points this season-long matchup has had to offer and have outscored Ottawa 9-1. These squads will meet one final time in the regular season, when Ottawa will host on September 30.

Looking forward, Atlético Ottawa will return home to TD Place for a Friday night contest with Inter Toronto. Cavalry will remain at home and welcome Vancouver FC to ATCO Field for the first time in 2026 on Saturday night.
