The Whitecaps return home Wednesday night to take on San Diego FC in a must-win match.

Here's everything you need to know heading into the game!

How the Vancouver Whitecaps enter this match

It's back to square one for the Whitecaps; their win drought at Colorado continued when the Rapids narrowly won 1-0 on a fortunate Morgan Whittaker goal.

Vancouver's game was a mess after forward Emmanuel Sabbi was injured in what Jesper Sørensen described as a "high ankle sprain," which could sideline the American for six to twelve weeks.

In the standings, the Whitecaps now hold only a one-point lead over second-place FC Dallas, so a win is necessary, and some help from the Columbus Crew would be appreciated.

How San Diego FC enters this match

It's been a sophomore slump for the newest MLS side, which managed a 2-2 home draw against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday.

It could be seen as a good result for the Chrome and Azul, given that they were down 2-0 with 35 minutes remaining before earning two spot kicks. One resulted in an Anders Dreyer goal after his initial kick was saved, while the other was slotted in stoppage time by Cédric Bakambu.

Sitting in twelfth place, San Diego sits six points away from the final wildcard spot, so a win is needed with the club facing potential elimination from playoff contention.

Head-to-Head

It was an enjoyable away day for the Whitecaps back in May, when the club soared to a 4-2 win at Snapdragon Stadium, with Brian White recording a brace before Bruno Caicedo and Ralph Priso added to the tally.

Vancouver hold the lead in the overall head-to-head series with a 2-1-1 record, but San Diego have won the only meeting at BC Place Stadium, which came last year in June after now-Philadelphia Union star Milan Iloski struck four past Vancouver in a 5-3 win.

Availability

This section will be updated at 2:00 pm PT following the release of the MLS Availability Report.

For Vancouver, Sam Adekugbe, Kenji Cabrera, Belal Halbouni, and Rui Modesto will likely miss tomorrow's clash. The good news is that Thomas Müller was back in full training on Monday and should be good to go. Emmanuel Sabbi won't be available after suffering his previously mentioned ankle injury.

For San Diego, only Elias Achouri was listed as unavailable against the Seattle Sounders, while it remains unclear how serious his issue is.

Projected XIs

TrueNorthFoot projects the following line-ups for each side.
