A much-improved performance from Jesper Sørensen's side.
After Thursday's brutal 3-0 Champions Cup defeat to Seattle, the Vancouver Whitecaps responded emphatically, putting in a near-perfect performance to thrash Minnesota United 6-0 at BC Place Stadium and propel themselves to the top of both the Western Conference and Supporters' Shield standings.
Jesper Sørensen made five changes to his starting eleven, bringing in Mihail Gherasimencov, Ralph Priso, Andrés Cubas, Aziel Jackson, and Jeevan Badwal. Tate Johnson, Oliver Larraz, Kenji Cabrera, and Thomas Müller all dropped to the bench, while Tristan Blackmon was absent entirely due to the calf injury sustained against Seattle. Sebastian Schonlau was named among the substitutes, with Adrían Zendejas and J.C. Ngando making way due to bench size restrictions. With Müller among the replacements, Brian White took the captain's armband.
Minnesota made two changes from their starting eleven that lost to Nashville, with Carlos Harvey and Kyle Duncan entering for Anthony Markanich and Bongokuhle Hlongwane, who were demoted to the bench. James Rodríguez was named to the bench, much to the fans' excitement.
Vancouver were dominant almost immediately after kick-off, with an Édier Ocampo cross finding Aziel Jackson at the far post, but unable to keep his effort down, sailing over the bar.
Minutes later, a pass from Andrés Cubas found Jeevan Badwal, who Kyle Duncan took out, prompting referee Ricardo Fierro to point to the penalty spot just six minutes into the match.
Sebastian Berhalter stepped up and slotted his kick down the middle to give Vancouver the lead in the eighth minute.

Moments later, Berhalter threaded a pass through to Emmanuel Sabbi, who kept the ball in play superbly with a first-time cross for Brian White to volley home Vancouver's second in the 13th minute.

Berhalter then came close to a spectacular third, letting fly with a first-time curler from distance that narrowly clipped the outside of the top right corner.
A beautiful ball from Mathías Laborda in the 21st minute found Jeevan Badwal, who struck the post on a chance he will want to forget.
After Aziel Jackson won a free kick, Berhalter's delivery caused chaos in Minnesota's box before the ball trickled in off the left foot of Mathías Laborda, who will have been relieved to get on the scoresheet after a difficult night just three days earlier.

Minnesota finally fashioned a chance in the 38th minute, as a low cross from Kyle Duncan picked out Nectarios Triantis, but the Greek struck the post as he went in search of his second goal of the season.
Vancouver went straight back on the attack, with Andrés Cubas winning the ball off Triantis before Berhalter threaded another incisive pass through to Emmanuel Sabbi, who tucked away a much-needed first goal of the season to make it 4-0.

A routine save from Yohei Takaoka and a firm yellow card for Minnesota's Jefferson Díaz followed before referee Ricardo Fierro brought the first half to a close, with Vancouver firmly in control and already looking like comfortable winners.
The second half began much as the first had ended, with Vancouver continuing to dominate in the attacking third. In the 53rd minute, Aziel Jackson was brought down inside the box by DJ Taylor, and Ricardo Fierro had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.
This time, Brian White stepped up and slotted home his fifth goal of the season, making amends for the penalty he missed in Vancouver's 2-0 win over Cartaginés.

Berhalter had a chance to double his tally shortly after, but fired well off target after being picked out by Édier Ocampo.
At the other end, a Minnesota corner led to Joaquín Pereyra's cross being met by the head of Jefferson Díaz, only for Yohei Takaoka to produce a brilliant save in the 58th minute. The goalkeeper then had to be alert again moments later, using his feet to block a cutback from Kelvin Yeboah.
Andrés Cubas was booked in the 64th minute for persistent fouling.
Jesper Sørensen made a triple substitution in the 65th minute, with Sebastian Berhalter, Emmanuel Sabbi, and Édier Ocampo all making way for Oliver Larraz, Cheikh Sabaly, and Sebastian Schonlau, who finally made his debut after signing for the club 207 days ago.
James Rodríguez also made his Minnesota debut, coming on for Tomás Chancalay at the same time as the Whitecaps' triple substitution.
Schonlau almost marked his debut with a goal, getting on the end of a set piece from Oliver Larraz, but his effort drifted well wide.
After a routine save from Yohei Takaoka denied Kelvin Yeboah, a brilliant pass from Ralph Priso picked out Jeevan Badwal, who squared it to a wide-open Cheikh Sabaly. The winger should have done better, but Drake Callender got down to make the save.
Vancouver extended their lead to 6-0 in the 74th minute when a long ball from Andrés Cubas found Mathías Laborda, who slipped it through to Cheikh Sabaly. The winger cut onto his left foot and finished despite a goal-line block from Jefferson Díaz, marking his first goal for the Whitecaps since joining in February.

Surprisingly, Thomas Müller was brought on despite the lopsided scoreline, replacing Aziel Jackson, with Rayan Elloumi also coming on for Brian White in the 77th minute.
In the 88th minute, a Joaquín Pereyra free kick was again met by Jefferson Díaz, but Yohei Takaoka produced arguably an even better save to preserve his fifth clean sheet of the season.
After four minutes of added time, Ricardo Fierro blew the final whistle, as Vancouver moved to 4-0-0 in MLS play, mirroring their start from last season.
Their plus-13 goal difference and four straight wins mark the best start through four matches in MLS history, sending the Whitecaps to the top of the league across both conferences.
Next up for Vancouver is a trip to face Seattle Sounders at One Spokane Stadium in the second leg of their Champions Cup Round of 16 clash, where they need to win by at least three goals to have any chance of advancing. They scored six today, four of which came in the first half, and they will need that same magic on Wednesday.
