Vancouver FC fell 3-0 to Cruz Azul in the club's historic Concacaf Champions Cup debut.
The Eagles had six debutants in the starting line-up, with Morey Doner, Damiano Pecile, Luis Toomey, Mohamed Amissi, Marcello Polisi, and Tom Field all making their first appearances for Vancouver.
As expected, the visitors had little trouble throughout most of the match, controlling possession and creating the better chances.
The opening 10 minutes were fairly even, with the only opportunity in that period coming from Vancouver’s Marcello Polisi, whose headed effort went wide.
After that, it was all Cruz Azul, as they suffocated the Eagles just outside their box.
The deadlock was broken in the 22nd minute, when a shot was blocked inside the area but fell to Gabriel Fernández, whose effort took a slight deflection off José Paradela, who was credited with the goal.

As Cruz Azul attempted to clear, the ball fell to Kian Proctor, who had practically an open net but fired wide with a hurried effort.
Minutes later, David Norman Jr. nearly scored one of the goals of the tournament with an acrobatic bicycle kick that was saved by the Cruz Azul goalkeeper.

Cruz Azul had a final chance in the dying minutes, sending a shot just over the bar.
