Moïse Bombito is set to be ruled out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Matthew Scianitti of TSN reported the news Saturday night, stating that the defender's surgically repaired leg is 'not healthy enough to compete.'
Bombito suffered a broken leg in October last year during an OGC Nice match and made his return to the pitch last week, starting in Canada's 2-0 win over Uzbekistan.
That game proved to be the turning point: Thirty minutes in, the 26-year-old was substituted as a precaution alongside Richie Laryea, and was later seen leaving the pitch with ice on his knee.
He told TSN afterward that he felt sore following the match. According to Matthew Scianitti, Canada's decision is also tied to the long-term health of Bombito beyond the tournament.

Naturally, his replacement on the pitch will be Luc de Fougerolles, who started in Canada's 1-1 draw against Ireland on Friday and impressed once again.
On the roster side, Jesse Marsch will need to name two players to replace both Bombito and Marcelo Flores, who suffered an ACL injury last week. While Canada have until June 11 to finalize their roster, Ralph Priso and Jayden Nelson are expected to be the two additions, with Nelson having scored in the 2-0 win over Uzbekistan. Both are natural position replacements for Bombito and Flores and have already accumulated significant minutes during this window.
Canada is off to Toronto for its first World Cup match on the 12th (3:00 pm ET / 12:00 pm PT) against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
More to come.
