With Vancouver FC sacking Afshin Ghotbi after a two-and-a-half-year tenure, the club has appointed Martin Nash as Interim Head Coach.
The 49-year-old former Canadian international is no stranger to the CPL world, having managed York United from 2021 to 2024 after serving as an assistant coach with Cavalry from 2019 until his move to Northern Toronto.
Nash’s role won’t be limited to the first team—he’ll also head the club’s academy, taking charge of the U19 program and working closely with the existing development staff.
“We are pleased to appoint Martin to lead our group both as interim head coach and head of our academy,” said Vancouver FC President and CEO Rob Friend. “This is an opportunity to reset, refocus and align our organization from top to bottom as we aim to put in strong performances over the second half of the year. We look forward to building momentum and finishing the season on a high note.”

At York United, Nash recorded 25 wins, 13 draws, and 31 losses across 69 matches.
In 2023, he guided the Nine Stripes to a club-record 11 regular season wins and their first-ever playoff berth.
Nash is no stranger to Vancouver soccer—he began his senior career with the Whitecaps (then the 86ers) in 1995, returned in 1999, and rejoined again in 2004 with the modern Whitecaps, where he made 196 appearances before retiring in 2010.
