Forge FC has secured the re-signing of two-time and reigning Canadian Premier League MVP Tristan Borges to a multi-year contract.
Borges, 25, has established himself as one of the best players in the league's short history, recording 160 appearances for the Hammers across all competitions over five seasons.
He is Forge's all-time top scorer with 34 goals, as well as the leading assister with 33.
He has won 3 Canadian Premier League titles and 2 CPL Shields with the Hammers.
To put it simply, this is a huge move for the Hamiltonians.
Notably, Borges is the only player in CPL history to win the Player of the Year award twice, first earning the honour in 2019 and most recently in 2024. In his breakout 2019 campaign, he finished as the league's top scorer with 13 goals while playing as an attacking midfielder. That same season, he was also tied for the league lead in assists, tallying 5.
Borges was sold in the 2019-2020 offseason to Belgian 2nd tier side OH Leuven, where he fell out of favour after the club switched manager.
In 2021, he returned to Hamilton and was deployed as a left-winger for the next three seasons. While his performances dropped slightly, they remained strong.
In 2024, Bobby Smyrniotis put Borges back in the attacking midfielder position, where he immediately became an early contender for league MVP, which he ended up winning. In that season, he scored 8 times and recorded 9 assists across all competitions in 32 appearances.
"Tristan has been a cornerstone of our success since day one," said Forge FC head coach Bobby Smyrniotis to the club. "He is not only a gifted and versatile player but also a leader and a game-changer for this club. We’re thrilled to have him continue as a key part of our team"
