Cavalry cruised to a 3-0 victory on Sunday to remain undefeated in 2026 and move to the top of the CPL table.

Pacific captain Josh Heard returned to the starting XI for his first CPL action since April 18 and played his first full 90 minutes of the season. On the other side, Jay Herdman made his return to the lineup and provided pace for 60 minutes before being replaced by Ali Musse.

Both sides leaned heavily on their benches in the second half, with notable appearances including 18-year-old Mattias Vales making his second outing for Pacific and Curtis Ofori making his third appearance for Cavalry. Continuing his return to full fitness, Harry Paton logged 30 minutes for the home side.

Cavalry controlled possession for much of the first half, although it did not lead to many clear attacking chances. Pacific, while showing composure at times in spells of forward play, struggled to create quality opportunities with their aggressive 4-3-3 setup. Ronan Kraat stood out for the visitors across both halves, but was regularly contained by the Cavs' imposing back line.

Six-foot-five defender Josh Belluz continued his run of playing every available CPL minute for Pacific this season and was once again the standout in their defence.

The second half began with a yellow card for Adam Pearlman, who struggled on the day. Shortly after, Cavalry settled into their attacking rhythm. Caniggia Elva and Eryk Kobza both had strong chances, but the breakthrough came in the 59th minute when captain Sergio Camargo pounced on a misplayed ball from goalkeeper Eleias Himaras and scored his first goal of the campaign.

Moments later, a Tobias Warschewski inswinging corner was met by Amer Didic, who headed home for his first goal for Cavalry and his first since 2024.

Cavalry continued to apply relentless pressure in the closing stages, with Warschewski striking the post in the 79th minute after driving down the right flank virtually unmarked.

The result was put beyond doubt in the fourth minute of added time following a brilliant individual effort from late substitute Nico Myroniuk. The 20-year-old slipped a pass to team scoring leader Warschewski, who made no mistake to cap off his best performance of the young season.

The result secures Nathan Ingham his fourth clean sheet in Cavalry’s last five CPL matches, and sees the Cavs level with Forge on just three goals conceded through the first quarter of the CPL season.

Looking ahead, Pacific, whose winless run has now stretched to 18 matches, will host Atletico Ottawa on Saturday, May 30.

Meanwhile, Cavalry returns to the road on Sunday, May 31, to face Forge in a match that will decide who takes top spot in the CPL table into June.
