Cavalry put an exclamation point on their hot start to the season with a dominant 5-1 victory on the road against Inter Toronto.
Still second in the table, the Cavs improve to 7-2-1 in CPL play and now sit alone atop the league in goals scored with 19, four clear of Forge and Atlético Ottawa, the next closest sides.
Meanwhile, Toronto falls to 3-3-3 and has now lost its last three matches, being outscored 12-3 in the process. Inter still sits fourth in the league on 12 points, but has endured a difficult run of form over the past month after opening the season with a six-match unbeaten streak.
Tommy Wheldon Jr. began the match with a few unusual faces in his starting eleven, as Michael Baldisimo, Nathaniel Edwards, and Levi Laing made their first, third, and fifth starts of the season, respectively. Ali Musse returned to the lineup after a two-match absence, starting on the bench before replacing Edwards late in the match.
On the other side of the pitch, Mauro Eustáquio opted for a conservative 5-4-1 setup, with Tomasz Skublak serving as the lone attacking outlet. Shola Jimoh was absent for a third consecutive match and will look to rejoin the club after the midseason break.
Despite trailing in possession for much of the evening, Cavalry consistently created dangerous attacking opportunities and opened the scoring early when Tobias Warschewski capitalized on a misplayed ball from Diego Urtiaga and calmly slotted home the opener.
Inter rarely generated chances in the first half and sent many of their efforts well wide of Nathan Ingham's goal.
Cavalry doubled its lead just before halftime as Warschewski surged down the flank and delivered a brilliant pass to Goteh Ntignee, who then set up Sergio Camargo for a simple tap-in.
Urtiaga, who faced 13 shots on target throughout the evening, produced his best save in the 52nd minute to deny Ntignee, but the Cavs maintained their pressure and soon found an unmarked Edwards in the box for his first goal with the club.
The hosts pulled one back in the 68th minute after a deep throw-in was redirected into his own net by Levi Laing. Inter briefly used the defensive mistake to build momentum and enjoyed its best sustained spell of the match in the minutes that followed.
Unfortunately for the home side, Caniggia Elva erased any hopes of a late comeback with a long-range strike to make it 4-1 in the closing stages.
To make matters worse for Inter, late substitute Niko Myroniuk added Cavalry's fifth goal in the third minute of added time. His second CPL goal, and first since October 2025, was one of the final moments of the match and means Cavalry now has 10 different goalscorers through 10 league matches this season.
Ntignee, who had several chances of his own but was unable to find the net, was heavily involved throughout the match and finished with two assists.
Looking ahead, Cavalry will return from the break on Sunday, June 28, when it hosts FC Supra. Inter Toronto will enjoy a much-needed 24-day break before returning to action on Saturday, July 4, with a trip to the west coast to face Vancouver FC.
