Canadian Premier League reveals a new identity alongside semi-pro leagues
JAN. 27, 2026 (MODIFIED ON JAN 27, 2026)

Rebrand — Canadian soccer’s favourite word.

The Canadian Premier League unveiled a new brand identity on Tuesday as part of a coordinated evolution led by Canadian Soccer Business.

As part of the overhaul, League1 Canada — the umbrella organization overseeing the country’s semi-professional leagues — has been rebranded as Premier Soccer Leagues Canada. Four of its five leagues have also adopted new names, becoming the British Columbia Premier League, Alberta Premier League, Prairies Premier League, and Ontario Premier League.

"This new identity reflects the role the Canadian Premier League plays as the professional destination within our league portfolio, and its contribution to setting standards within Canadian soccer," said CPL executive vice president Costa Smyrniotis in a statement. "It expresses the ambition, performance, and national pride expected of a professional league competing on home soil."

The new crest is anchored in red and “winner’s” gold, featuring a shield that points north above the Canadian maple leaf.

Several elements of the design, including the overall structure and typography, are shared with Premier Soccer Leagues Canada and four of its five semi-professional leagues, reinforcing a unified visual identity across the domestic pyramid.

"This evolution is about aligning our leagues with greater intention," James Johnson, CEO of CSB, said in a statement. "The Canadian Premier League and Premier Soccer Leagues Canada play distinct but complementary roles in the Canadian game. This alignment is a meaningful expression of how we’re supporting players, clubs, and partners, guided by a clear vision for how CSB’s leagues can grow, connect, and strengthen the pathways of the Canadian game over time."

The rebrand also included the official announcement of the Prairies Premier League, which becomes the fifth semi-professional league under the national structure. Set to launch in 2026, the inaugural season will feature Saskatchewan EXCEL Program, Forza Soccer Academy, QC United, FC Manitoba, Bonivital Flames, Lucania FC, and Thunder Bay Chill.

Ligue1 Québec, which operates independently from Canadian Soccer Business, has not announced any changes to its branding.

TrueNorthFoot understands that Canadian Premier League clubs could wear a customized version of the new crest on their jerseys, adapted to each club’s individual colours.

The league's eight-season will kick off around the weekend of April 11, with a schedule set to release in the coming weeks.
