The first road game in the Philippe Eullaffroy era is on the horizon for CF Montréal.

After a pair of successful home wins over the two New York sides, the Impact will hope they can extend their winning streak to three games as they travel to face a pretty poor Atlanta United team.

That being said, the Five Stripes are also in better form of late, winning in Toronto last weekend before defeating Charlotte in the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday.

Montréal failed to beat Atlanta in either fixture last season, losing away in the season opener and drawing at home in an August game.

How CF Montréal enter the match

Two wins from two under the new boss is almost exactly what you could hope for if you're Montréal, and there certainly seems to be at least some merit in how Eullaffroy's tactical tweaks have gotten more out of this group.

The two main changes are the switch back to a more zonal marking system and the addition of a third central midfielder.

Matty Longstaff said after last week's win about how the zonal marking has simplified things defensively for the group, as there's less confusion around who has who, when to step and other things that caused the man-marking system to fall apart.

Meanwhile, adding Samuel Piette back to the midfield has really stabilized the middle of the park, allowing Longstaff and Victor Loturi to push forward more and cover less ground all over the pitch.

Both of these changes have made Montréal much more stable, and have allowed them to win two games where they've been mostly perceived as underdogs at home, and holding little possession while hitting on the counter.

Atlanta may cause a different test, as they're not a perceived better team than the Impact, and may opt to try and force the visitors to play more with the ball this weekend than they've had to in the past couple of weeks.

How Atlanta United enter the match

It's been another disappointing season so far for the Five Stripes, sitting with just seven points through their first 10 games of the season.

Despite bringing back former MLS Cup-winning head coach Tata Martino, the play on the pitch has still struggled thanks to underperforming designated players, other signings that haven't worked out and an attack that can't generate many chances at all.

However, they do come into this one in as good form as they've been in all year. Last weekend in Toronto was arguably their best performance of the season, and particularly the attacking play in the second half was something to build off of.

Then, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Open Cup is surely another morale boost for a team that hasn't had much to cheer about since the beginning of 2025.

Martino has started to favour more youth in the starting lineup, namely academy products Matt Edwards, Cooper Sanchez, Luke Brennan and Jay Fortune of late, while Aleksey Miranchuk's form has improved a bit, giving this team at least somewhat of a functional midfield and chance creation hub.

Defensively, they aren't totally inept in the way some of the other teams at the bottom of the East this season are, so they are at least somewhat tough to beat.

Atlanta knows they'll need to win this game if they really want to get their season back on track in league play, so they should come out the same way they ended last week's fixture.

Availability

Not too much has changed from last week on Montréal's side, with Hennadiy Synchuk, Wiki Carmona, Sunusi Ibrahim and Bode Hidalgo seemingly not ready to return this weekend, and no new injuries reported in the past few days around training.

For Atlanta, Cayman Togashi will likely be a new name added to the injury list, as he limped off before halftime last weekend with an apparent ankle injury. Joining him will likely be Miguel Almirón, Steven Alzate, Tomás Jacob and Sérgio Santos, who are still recovering from their respective injuries.

Projected XIs

TrueNorthFoot projects an unchanged lineup from last week for visiting Montréal, while Atlanta will be forced into one change at striker due to injury from last weekend's affair.
