Alessandro Biello is a Halifax Wanderer; The club announced the signing of the 18-year-old midfielder on a season-long loan from MLS outfit CF Montréal.

Biello spent the 2024 campaign with the Impact, making both his first-team and MLS debuts for the Bleu-blanc-noir, leading up to four appearances cross the league and the Canadian Championship.

The young defensive midfielder has 18 appearances at the Canadian youth level, most recently representing the U20 team and scoring once.

“Alessandro is one of the top up-and-coming Canadian talents who has shown progression at club and national team levels,” HFX Wanderers sporting director Matt Fegan said in a statement. “We are delighted to be a part of his journey and contribute to the next steps of his career. We will also look forward to the collaboration with CF Montreal on Alessandro’s ongoing development.”

As a U21 player, Biello’s minutes will count toward Halifax’s 2,000-minute domestic U21 requirement for the regular season. However, since he’s on loan, only a maximum of 1,000 minutes will be counted.

“Alessandro has a promising future in the game and as he continues to grow, he’s going to be a player that will help us take a step towards where we want to go this season,” Wanderers head coach Patrice Gheisar said. “He’s great at moving the ball forward and managing the tempo in midfield. We’re going to challenge him to be a chance creator and get forward to find opportunities for our attack.”

Biello, who is on his way to Nove Scotia to join the club’s training camp, cannot be recalled by CF Montréal during the 2025 season.

The 18-year-old midfielder joins a squad consisting of goalkeepers Aiden Rushenas and Rayane Yesli; defenders Jefferson Alphonse, Julian Dunn, Thomas Meilleur-Giguere, Nassim Mekideche, Kareem Sow, and Wesley Timoteo; midfielders Lorenzo Callegari, Vitor Dias, Jeremy Gagnon-Lapare, Isaiah Johnston, Giorgio Probo, Andre Rampersad, and Sean Rea; and forwards Jason Bahamboula, Yohan Baï, Tavio Ciccarelli, Tiago Coimbra, Ryan Telfer, and Camilo Vasconcelos.

The Halifax Wanderers will feature in the opening match of the 2025 Canadian Premier League season, visiting the nation’s capital to face Atlético Ottawa on April 5.
