Rumour: Matteo de Brienne is headed to Swedish first-tier side GAIS
BY TRUENORTHFOOT PUBLISHED ON DECEMBER 26, 2024

According to Manuel Veth of Transfermarkt, 22-year-old Matteo de Brienne is set to join Sweden's GAIS pending medicals.

The first division club has been in talks with de Brienne for some time now. They reportedly hoped to sign him during the summer, but Atlético Ottawa preferred to keep him.

Ottléti triggered his 2025 club option, meaning they'll get a transfer fee for this move.

In the 2024 season, de Brienne made 31 appearances for the club, registering 2 assists.

Before that, he was a Valour player for 2 seasons, where he played 44 matches and won the Best Canadian U21 Player of the Year in 2023.

De Brienne will join a growing list of CPL standouts to move to Europe, with the likes of Kwasi Poku and Goteh Ntignee making the move to the 'old continent'.
