Who is Esteban Landazabal, the Canadian-Colombian coach who recently departed Mexican giants CF Monterrey after three years within the club's ranks?
Landazabal may be a familiar name to some in Quebec. From 2016 to 2023, he worked within CF Montréal's academy and also served as an assistant coach to Philippe Eullaffroy, the current interim head coach of the first team.
Now looking ahead to his next steps, TrueNorthFoot understands that a return to CF Montréal as an assistant coach alongside Eullaffroy is on the cards. However, a move to another club is also possible.
Landazabal spent time in Monterrey within the academy before stepping into an assistant coach role with the first team a few months ago. Before that, he served as an assistant coach at Antigua in Guatemala.
On the CPL front, Landazabal had the opportunity to join Atlético Ottawa alongside Eullaffroy for the 2025 season following Carlos González's departure, but opted to go elsewhere, with Ottawa ultimately turning to the man who led them to a league title in Diego Mejía.
With experience at LigaMX and MLS clubs, Landazabal is an interesting profile for any CPL side. And with Mejía now set to depart Ottawa, who knows what the future holds for him there, or at another club closer to home.
