The Vancouver Whitecaps make their long-awaited return to BC Place Stadium with a marquee matchup, as the top side in the Western Conference goes up against LAFC, a side that has been excellent since the restart of MLS play.

Here's everything you need to know heading into tomorrow's game!

How the Vancouver Whitecaps enter this game

This is rare to say about the Whitecaps in recent years, but they enter this match on a bit of poor form.

In the four matches they played in July, they won once, drew twice, and lost once, as the win came in the first leg of the Canadian Championship against Cavalry FC.

After a 4-3 midweek loss to FC Cincinnati, the Whitecaps ended their seven-match MLS road stretch with a toothless 0-0 draw against Minnesota United.

Despite the concerning form, the Whitecaps remain at the top of the MLS Western Conference but have dropped behind Nashville SC and Inter Miami in the MLS Supporters' Shield standings.

With both San Jose and LAFC on Vancouver's tail, Jesper Sørensen's side must win tomorrow's game if they want to retain the top spot in the West.

How LAFC enters this game

After a rough start to life, former Whitecaps boss Marc Dos Santos has gotten the best out of the Black and Gold.

They had three matches in July, and won all three convincingly, with South Korean superstar Son Heung-Min finally grabbing his first MLS goal of the season, and he hasn't stopped since opening his account against the Los Angeles Galaxy.

LAFC's most recent match was a convincing 4-0 win at BMO Stadium over Sporting Kansas City, and these results have propelled them into second spot, although they have played an extra game over the third-place San Jose Earthquakes.

A side that has had Vancouver's number on several occasions, LAFC will look to grab a first-ever win against Jesper Sørensen, and tomorrow could be the day due to the contrasting form both sides have been showing.

Another side note: this will be Marc Dos Santos' first match against the Vancouver Whitecaps as a head coach, as we all know his stint with the 'Caps that spanned from late 2018 to mid-2021, where he was sacked after a 4-3 loss to Pacific FC. Tomorrow will be a bit special for Dos Santos, taking on his former side for the first time as a head coach after serving as an assistant coach for Steve Cherundolo previously.

Head-to-Head

Most people remember the latest meeting between these two sides, as it came in the 2025 MLS Playoffs, in arguably one of the greatest playoff matches in MLS history that wasn't a final.

After two first-half goals from Emmanuel Sabbi and Mathías Laborda, a couple of goals from Son Heung-Min, including a stunning free kick following Tristan Blackmon's red card, sent the game into extra time. Vancouver would have to play with nine players for the majority of the extra time period due to an injury to Belal Halbouni, but despite that adversity, they sent the game into extra time, and the 'Caps would prevail after Son Heung-Min and Mark Delgado both missed their spot kicks.

The overall series is in LAFC's favour, as they have recorded twelve wins, while Vancouver has earned seven wins, with the remaining seven ending in draws.

Players to Watch

The Raumdeuter Thomas Müller has been a great addition for the Whitecaps since his blockbuster arrival last year in August. This season, the 36-year-old has recorded five goals and two assists across nineteen games in all competitions this season, while playing a crucial role off the ball. While it isn't the same as the insane numbers from his debut campaign, the German legend continues to have a positive impact on the pitch and will certainly look to help the Whitecaps get back on track with a win tomorrow.

From one blockbuster move to another, LAFC shortly after announced the acquisition of South Korean superstar Son Heung-Min, who's already had an impact against Vancouver during the most recent matchup between these two sides. After a breathtaking debut season, the 34-year-old has recorded five goals and fifteen assists in 24 games across all competitions. A threat alongside Denis Bouanga, the Whitecaps could be in for a long night if they don't get the defending right against LAFC tomorrow.

For Vancouver, Kenji Cabrera, Bruno Caicedo, and Belal Halbouni remain out due to injuries, while Liam Mackenzie misses out due to international duty. Ranko Veselinović will also miss out after suffering a left knee injury against Minnesota; Ralph Priso has fully recovered from injury and will be available for selection. Emmanuel Sabbi is back in full training, but his availability is questionable heading into this one. Édier Ocampo is back after serving his one-match ban due to yellow card accumulation.

For Los Angeles, Igor Jesus and Sergi Palencia were unavailable against Sporting Kansas City, as it's unknown whether they are fit for tomorrow's match.
