It's a headline match to kick off the new week of Canadian Premier League action, as Vancouver FC hosts Pacific in the third edition of the Salish Sea Derby in 2026, as the excellent hosts look to once again grab a win against the struggling visitors.

How Vancouver FC come into the match

Currently the team to beat in the CPL, Martin Nash's Vancouver FC have been on a tear in recent months, currently holding a five-match winning streak in league play, with four of those wins coming after their Canadian Championship exit.

In their most recent outing, a lone goal from Damiano Pecile sealed an important 1-0 win over Forge FC on the road, as they continue to build a gap away from slipping out of the playoff positions.

Holding a two-point lead ahead of Atlético Ottawa, Vancouver will have to win to retain their third place, as they head into this game as the heavy favourites.

How Pacific FC come into the match

Currently the worst team in the league, Pacific FC will be desperate for three points tomorrow, as they've gone 26 games without a win and have recorded 11 losses in the 2026 CPL season so far.

Terry Dunfield's side managed a 1-1 draw against Inter Toronto last week. After Yann Toualy's first-half opener, Luke Singh was able to capitalize on a poor error from Eleias Himaras to equalize.

For the fans, this has been a really dark time, as while they do unsurprisingly sit in last place, what better time for Pacific to snap this winning drought with a derby win?

Head-to-head

The most recent meeting between these two sides came in mid-June, when a Marco Bustos opener was cancelled out by a Kian Proctor strike before Luis Toomey won it for the Eagles with a nifty run to make it 2-1 for the hosts.

In the 15 meetings of the Salish Sea Derby, Vancouver FC hold the edge with seven wins and four draws, while Pacific FC have recorded four victories.

This will be the third of four meetings between the sides this season, with Vancouver FC having won both encounters so far: the aforementioned 2-1 victory and a 3-1 win back in early May.

Players to watch

A crucial player in Vancouver's hot streak has been midfielder Damiano Pecile, as the former Vancouver Whitecap has found a home back in Canada after some time in Europe. In his last four games, the 24-year-old has recorded three goals and two assists as a central midfielder, putting in Man of the Match performances in most of those games. After scoring against Forge last week, Pecile will once again be instrumental for Vancouver tomorrow night.

With the absence of Marco Bustos, Pacific will be looking to 22-year-old Ronan Kratt to provide a spark in the attack. Kratt recorded his third assist of the season last Saturday, showing some great skill before playing the ball across to Yann Toualy. He's also scored a goal in his first season since returning from an ACL injury. If Kratt can get up and running, he can certainly play a role in a potential shock win for the Tridents.

Availability

Emrick Fotsing will be out for a few weeks after starting the first two games for the Canadian Men's Under-20 National Team at the Concacaf U20 Championship before becoming an unused substitute for the remainder of the tournament due to injury. Marcel Bibishikov could be available for Martin Nash's side as he returns from the Concacaf U20 Championship.

Marco Bustos is out for the Tridents as he serves the second game of his three-match suspension after being shown a red card against FC Supra, while club captain Josh Heard is back from his red card suspension after serving a one-match ban. Yann Toualy is a doubt for this game as he continues to recover from a head injury sustained against Inter Toronto.

Christian Greco-Taylor has gone five games without a yellow card, meaning he can pick up one more before being at risk of an accumulation suspension. Roshawn Juhmi is also one yellow card away from a suspension.
