The Halifax Wanderers have signed Canadian midfielder Isaiah Johnston from USL Championship outfit Loudoun United for an undisclosed transfer fee.
The 23-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract with a club option for 2027.
"Isaiah is an exciting Canadian talent with a tremendous work ethic and versatility across the pitch, particularly in midfield," HFX Wanderers sporting director Matt Fegan said to the club. "His time spent in Nova Scotia for part of his college career means he understands the environment and the values of our region. We’re confident he will establish himself as a fan favourite through that connection and his all-round play. We’re delighted Isaiah has chosen to make the next step in his career with us here in Halifax."
Johnston returns to Canada after playing two seasons south of the border with the USL Championship team and Hunstville City of MLS Next Pro. Before his time in the United States, he spent three seasons with fellow Canadian Premier League side York United, where he made 53 appearances while scoring 4 times and tallying 5 assists. With the Nine Stripes, he also got yellow-carded 20 times.
The 23-year-old joins a Halifax squad consisting of goalkeepers Aiden Rushenas and Rayane Yesli; defenders Jefferson Alphonse, Thomas Meilleur-Giguere, Nassim Mekideche, Kareem Sow, and Wesley Timoteo; midfielders Vitor Dias, Jeremy Gagnon-Lapare, Isaiah Johnston, Giorgio Probo, and Andre Rampersad; and forwards Tavio Ciccarelli, Tiago Coimbra, Massimo Ferrin, Sean Rea, Ryan Telfer, and Camilo Vasconcelos.
