After seven years and the same number of titles with Forge, David Choinière is set to join the Canadian Premier League's newest club, FC Supra du Québec, with Nilton Jorge and Maxime Truman reporting the news on Thursday.
It's perhaps the least surprising signing of the off-season, given that the 28-year-old Quebec native had long lost his starting spot at Forge and his contract expired at the end of the season. With the opportunity to play for a new team at home, the move always seemed inevitable.
Choinière leaves the Hammers as one of the most important players in the league's history, earning the nickname "Mr. Clutch" for his ability to deliver in crucial matches, whether in the playoffs, the Canadian Championship, or Concacaf competitions.
The winger, best known for his dribbling and ability to smash shots off the crossbar from the near post, made 191 appearances for Forge, scoring 31 goals and recording 27 assists. He won a title each year—four league titles and three CPL Shields—though, remarkably, none were won in the same season.
He is no stranger to playing professionally in Quebec, having featured for the then-Montreal Impact across three seasons, making just seven appearances with one goal.

Choinière has previously expressed interest in FC Supra, telling Quentin Parisis of the Canadian Premier League that the new club was a "nice project".
The Quebec native said "It was time for Quebec to have a team."
"I'm especially happy for the province, for the people, and for the young players in Quebec who haven't had an opportunity to play at the professional level [...] The intention is really good. Supra will have a clear identity, which will create a unifying effect for the team. You're playing for the community, and the fans will be behind the team. It will automatically connect. That's why I say the project is very interesting."

Supra have yet to announce any signings for their inaugural season, with the two solid rumours so far being Choinière and Loïc Kwemi.
Forge has already confirmed the departure of Malik Owolabi-Belewu, who is off to the English fourth tier.
