The second of two all-CPL clashes in the preliminary round of the 2026 Canadian Championship brings another edition of the Baldisimo Bowl, as Cavalry visit Pacific on Saturday, May 9.

With both sides looking to improve on their disappointing cup exits last year, the match guarantees one of them an untimely exit.

After reaching back-to-back cup semifinals in 2023 and 2024, Pacific were knocked out of the 2025 tournament in the first round by eventual finalists Vancouver FC.

Likewise, Cavalry fell to the Eagles after a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat in the quarter-final round.

Cavalry and Pacific have met once already in league play this year, with the former earning a 2-1 victory in the first week.

How Pacific come into the match

The Tridents have struggled to start the CPL season, sitting at the bottom of the table with a 0-1-4 record.

They'll be hoping a new competition provides them with an opportunity to build some momentum, entering the match off the back of a 3-1 defeat to Vancouver FC last weekend in the first edition of the Salish Sea Derby.

How Cavalry come into the match

The Cavs sit second in the CPL table with three wins, two draws, and no losses.

After a back-and-forth victory away at FC Supra last Sunday, one major concern for them heading into this weekend will be fatigue from travel.

Availability

For the Tridents, Ronan Kratt made his first start of the season last weekend, suggesting he may be back to full match fitness after missing most of the 2025 CPL campaign with a lower-body injury. Matthew Baldisimo has also missed the last two matches for Pacific after starting each of their first three.

Meanwhile, on Cavalry's side, Amer Didic has missed the last two matches, while Harry Paton left last week’s fixture late in the first half. The availability of both players ahead of Saturday remains unconfirmed. 2026 regular Nathaniel Edwards was also absent from Cavalry’s lineup last time out.
