It was a day of firsts at Starlight Stadium as Cavalry defeated Pacific 2-1 to close out the opening week of Canadian Premier League action.
Tommy Wheldon Jr. had the first successful Football Video Support (FVS) challenge in league history after a foul from Tristan Marshall on Jay Herdman inside the box.
The review led to a penalty, where Tobias Warschewski made no mistake and scored the opening goal to the right of Ross Melvin in the 31st minute.

Continuing the theme of firsts, Harry Paton netted his first goal for his new club in the 48th minute, making his way into the box and firing one past Sean Melvin.
Defender Diego Konincks, who impressed on his Tridents debut, rounded out the scoring in the 73rd minute, pulling one back for the hosts with over 15 minutes to go.
From the first whistle, both sides went at each other with aggression, combining for 32 fouls and seven yellow cards throughout. Cavalry dominated possession in the first half, but Pacific responded after the break with greater attacking intent, coming close to pulling one back.
For the Tridents, Sean Melvin was kept busy between the posts, finishing with five saves, while Nathan Ingham had a quieter debut for Cavalry, facing just a single shot on target.
The win saw Cavalry secure their first three-point result in April in club history, a milestone long in the making. Conversely, Pacific suffered a season-opening defeat for the first time in club history.
With plenty of new faces, set pieces had been identified as a talking point for the Cavs heading into the season, and they wasted no time in showing their intent, with Paton's goal coming directly from a corner kick.
Looking ahead, Pacific hosts FC Supra in the Quebec side's inaugural match on Saturday, April 11, at 6:00 pm ET / 3:00 pm PT, while Cavalry return to Calgary for their home opener against Atlético Ottawa in a rematch of last year's final, on Sunday, April 12, at 2:00 pm MT / 4:00 pm ET.
