Ninety minutes were not enough to separate both sides, as Cavalry and Inter Toronto battled to a 1-1 draw on a cold April Saturday in south Calgary.

Intrigue around this match began well before kickoff. Ali Musse and Levi Laing made their first starts of the season for Cavalry, while Nathaniel Edwards returned to the bench, and Amer Didic was absent from the lineup. For the visitors, Beni Badibanga and Luca Accettola also earned their first starts, with Mauro Eustáquio opting for a very conservative 5-4-1 setup.

Early pressure saw the Cavs win seven corners in the first half, where Didic’s presence was clearly missed. The hosts struggled to generate clear chances from those set pieces, although Eryk Kobza was frequently involved in attacking sequences, pushing forward from his defensive midfield role.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 36th minute when Ali Musse delivered a superb free kick from distance that found Daan Klomp, who redirected it into an open net.

Inter responded just before the break, as Tomasz Skublak produced a clever no-look header from a perfectly delivered corner to level the match heading into halftime.

While the second half lacked consistent rhythm at times, both teams pushed for a winner. Despite Inter finishing with just 0.38 expected goals, Nathan Ingham came up with key saves when called upon, ending the match with four, including a strong diving stop to preserve the draw.

New signing Carlos Guzmán made a noticeable impact for the visiting side, helping organize the five-man back line alongside Diego Urtiaga while also stepping forward in attack during the second half.

Tommy Wheldon Jr. called for two FVS reviews in the second half, one for a potential foul in the box and another for a possible red card for dangerous play, but neither resulted in a decision being overturned.

Still unbeaten, Inter Toronto return to York Lions Stadium on May 1 at 7:30 pm ET for a Friday night clash with Atlético Ottawa. Cavalry, meanwhile, will make their first trip to Quebec to face FC Supra on Sunday, May 3 at 3:00 pm ET / 1:00 pm MT.
