Forge reasserted themselves as the best team in the Canadian Premier League on Sunday, defeating Inter Toronto 4-1 at York Lions Stadium.
After a strong start to the match, Forge were awarded a free-kick in the 16th minute. Marko Jevremović stepped up from well outside the box and struck with power, dipping the free-kick under the crossbar and in off the hand of Diego Urtiaga.

Ten minutes later, the visitors doubled their lead after a truly chaotic goalmouth scramble.
Urtiaga was unable to collect a Forge corner, leaving three Inter Toronto defenders simultaneously trying to make a block. However, after two Hoce Massunda attempts and several failed clearances, the ball crossed the line and Forge were awarded the goal.

Mo Babouli nearly made it 3-0 with a stunning scissor-kick, but Urtiaga came up with an excellent reaction save. Dimitry Bertaud made an equally important save on the other end to deny Raúl López from point-blank range.
But after an impressive first-half performance, Bobby Smyrniotis’ side went into the break with a 2-0 lead.
Fortunately for Inter Toronto, Max Ferrari popped up at the back post and pulled one back less than two minutes into the second-half.

However, Forge quickly regained their two-goal lead as Tristan Borges’ long-range effort was parried directly into the back of the net by Urtiaga, in yet another poor piece of goalkeeping.

Forge eventually added a fourth, scoring off a set-piece once again. This time, Borges’ corner was met by a near-post header from Ben Paton which deflected off the post, off Urtiaga and into the back of the net.

Both teams continued to create chances throughout the final 20 minutes, but the match was all but decided, with Forge coming away 4-1 winners.
With tonight's victory, Forge leapfrog Cavalry to go two points clear at the top of the CPL.
Inter Toronto, on the other hand, remain in third place. However, Mauro Eustáquio’s side are now eight points behind Cavalry with a game in hand.
Both clubs will be back in action on Wednesday, as Forge host Halifax Wanderers and Inter Toronto host Cavalry in their final matches before the CPL’s World Cup hiatus.
