Cavalry defeated Vancouver FC 2-0 to remain unbeaten in 2026.
The final CPL contest of matchweek six saw both sides engage in a hotly contested, physical, back-and-forth first half. With possession, total shots, and nearly every other attacking statistic sitting close to even, neither side was able to find a breakthrough early on.
Ali Musse, whose noticeably slow start to the season has yet to turn around, missed a brilliant chance from inside the box in the opening stages. At the other end, a defensive miscue from the Cavs handed Vancouver FC a golden opportunity to take the lead, but Nathan Ingham made the first of two key saves to keep the score level.
Vancouver FC also ran into disciplinary trouble early, as Mohamed Amissi, Aboubacar Traoré, and Terran Campbell were all booked before Cavalry received a single caution. The balance eventually evened out somewhat in the second half when both Ingham and Tobias Warschewski were booked for dissent and time-wasting.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 70th minute when Goteh Ntignee chipped a long pass over the Eagles' back line. Warschewski timed his run perfectly, broke through on goal, and calmly guided a low finish past Callum Irving. It was his third CPL goal of the season and first from open play, moving him into a tie for the league lead. After questions surrounding his goalscoring form following a below-expectation 2025 campaign, four goals in seven matches across all competitions have him firmly on track to silence any lingering doubts.

As the minutes wound down, Vancouver FC picked up another caution when late substitute Lys Mousset was booked while pushing for an equalizer. The Eagles came closest moments later when Ingham was forced into a brilliant diving save in the first minute of added time.
Set pieces proved to be a major struggle for Vancouver FC throughout the evening. Despite earning six corner kicks and 13 free kicks, the Eagles failed to create anything particularly dangerous, with several efforts sailing comfortably wide of goal.
Cavalry’s second goal came from an unlikely source. Just moments after entering the match, Levi Laing capitalized on a failed clearance from Callum Irving, stealing possession and calmly finishing into an empty net. It was Laing’s second CPL goal and his first in nearly a year.
Vancouver FC will look to return to winning ways next weekend when they host FC Supra on Saturday, May 23, at 6:00 pm ET / 3:00 pm PT. Both sides have looked defensively solid to begin the season, but consistent goalscoring has been difficult to find, with the two clubs combining for just nine goals through 11 matches.
Cavalry, meanwhile, will return home to ATCO Field for the first and only time in May when they host Pacific on Sunday, May 24 at 3:00 pm MT / 2:00 pm PT. It will already be the third meeting between the two clubs in 2026, with Cavalry winning 2-1 in week one of CPL play before earning a 3-1 victory in the Canadian Championship preliminary round just one week ago.
