Atlético Ottawa takes on Vancouver FC this Sunday at TD Place.
Both teams will be eager to climb out of the lower half of the standings, Vancouver FC in particular, who currently sit at the bottom of the table and are still looking to score their first goal of the season.
How Atlético Ottawa come into the match
Atlético Ottawa are back home in an attempt to prove to their fans that they are still a top team in the CPL.
Despite last week's 1-0 win away against FC Supra, it was the hosts who looked more dangerous, and if it wasn't for the heroics of Garrisone Innocente in goal and the well-placed header from Tyr Duhaney-Walker, the match could've gotten away from Atlético Ottawa.
In last week's matchup, FC Supra, a newly formed CPL side that played just their second professional match as a team, registered 22 shots (10 on target) to Ottléti's six (two on target).
In their first home match since lifting the North Star Cup in last year's final, Atlético Ottawa supporters will be out in full force.
How Vancouver FC come into the match
As previously mentioned, the Eagles enter this contest in search of not only their first win of the season, but their first goal as well.
While that statistic may appear alarming, it should not be a major concern for Martin Nash and his staff. The team has created quality chances and looked composed in possession, but has been unfortunate in front of goal, registering 17 shots (5 on target), 9 (6 on target), and 14 (6 on target) across their opening three matches.
Putting the ball in the back of the net will be at the top of Marin Nash's priorities during training, leading up to this week's matchup.
Defensively, Vancouver has shown clear improvement from last season, conceding just one goal in each of their three matches so far this season.
This progress can be attributed in part to new arrivals such as Damiano Pecile, Morey Doner, and Tom Field, as well as strong early-season performances from returning defenders Matteo Campagna and Paris Gee. Each will look to maintain this solid defensive form against a team that is also struggling to find the back of the net in Atlético Ottawa.
