Ontario versus Québec: a rivalry steeped in Canadian history. From hockey to soccer, it is never a friendly matchup.
Tomorrow night, that rivalry takes centre stage in an important battle with a playoff spot on the line, as the reigning CPL champions, Atlético Ottawa, take on the league's newest franchise, FC Supra du Québec, or simply FC Supra.
Here's everything you need to know about this clash in the nation's capital.
How Atlético Ottawa come into the match
Currently occupying the final playoff spot, many people had doubts about this Atlético Ottawa side following the departures of Sam Salter, David Rodríguez, and several other key players.
So far, despite a disappointing start, they have not looked too bad. While they have recorded more losses than wins, they are still holding on to that fourth and final playoff position.
Their most recent match ended in a 2-1 defeat to Vancouver FC on Friday, with Gabriel Antinoro receiving a red card while on the bench, meaning he will be unavailable for Diego Campos' side.
As Ottawa begins life without Diego Mejía, it will be interesting to see whether they can hold on and secure a postseason spot over the course of the 28-game season.
How FC Supra come into the match
So far in the Nick Razzaghi era, FC Supra fans have had little to complain about.
A respectable 3-2-3 record has the Québec-based side sitting just outside the playoff spots, but they also have the advantage of having played one fewer game, with that match in hand set to come against Inter Toronto.
In their most recent outing, they were able to salvage a point against Pacific after a Sean Rea strike cancelled out an opener from Alejandro Díaz.
Many fancy Supra to be in the playoffs by the end of the season, and if they want to prove those expectations right, these are exactly the types of matches they need to win to show how good they really are.
Head-to-head
This will only be the second meeting between these two sides, with the first matchup ending in a 1-0 win for Atlético Ottawa after a late header from Tyr Walker.
This is the second of six confirmed matchups this year, as the two will face each other in the Canadian Championship quarter-finals in the coming months in a two-legged series.
Players to watch
The difference-maker for Atlético Ottawa this season has been on the left-hand side. 27-year-old Ballou Tabla is already a legend for the club, leading them in all-time appearances with 110, breaking the previous record held by Nathan Ingham in their last outing. He also sits second on the all-time goals list with 27, ten behind Sam Salter, and leads the club’s all-time assist chart with 15. Overall, he is the main attacking threat for Atlético as they take on a side that was interested in Tabla’s services in the offseason.
Sean Rea has been immense for FC Supra in their first season, contributing three goals and two assists in eight games so far. Rea has had success in this league before, with his 2022 campaign seeing the Montréal native record five goals and nine assists in 27 matches. He has not quite reached those heights since, with his 2025 season at Halifax producing two goals and five assists. This year, however, Rea looks closer to his 2022 form. That is reflected both in the numbers and in his overall influence, as he has been the most important piece in Nick Razzaghi’s setup and will be key if FC Supra want to come away with a win.
Availability
For Atlético Ottawa, Gabriel Antinoro's red card on Friday means he's suspended for the matchup tomorrow, with the length of the suspension yet to be confirmed.
For FC Supra, Diyaeddine Abzi is out after picking up five yellow cards, resulting in an accumulation suspension. Fortunately for Nick Razzaghi's side, Oussema Boughanmi will be available following the completion of his one-match ban after being shown a red card against Inter Toronto.
Alessandro Biello is also set to return after serving a four-match suspension.
