The Vancouver Whitecaps and Forge meet at BC Place for the second leg of the Canadian Championship semi-finals.

The ’Caps will look to keep their momentum going after a stunning 7-0 thrashing of MLS leaders Philadelphia Union over the weekend.

Forge, meanwhile, will aim to make more history while putting their recent CPL struggles behind them.

Last time out

The first leg finished 2-2. The Hammers struck first through Nana Ampomah before Tristan Blackmon and Brian White scored in quick succession to give Vancouver the lead. But a costly mistake from Bjørn Utvik gifted Brian Wright the equalizer.

How Vancouver and Forge come into Tuesday’s clash

The Whitecaps demolished Philadelphia Union on Saturday, crushing the league leaders 7-0 in a sensational performance. Thomas Müller netted a hat-trick and was named MLS Player of the Week. With the win, Vancouver clinched a playoff spot and remain in the hunt for the Supporters’ Shield, sitting five points back of Philly with two games in hand.

Forge, meanwhile, have hit a rough patch. A shock 2-1 loss at Valour on Thursday marked their second domestic defeat of the season. Fortunately for them, Ottawa also dropped points and failed to take advantage in the race for the CPL Shield.

What they said

Thomas Müller, Vancouver Whitecaps FC player: "I think [Forge are] a tough team. They have, I think, a big winning streak as well...Now we [will] get them, we have to win it [...] It’s important, as it’s our shortest way to another trophy, so we’re taking this tournament very seriously, and so am I. I’m looking forward to playing my first decisive knockout game for the Whitecaps."

Bobby Smyrniotis, Forge FC head coach: "We've been blessed; we've been at this stage many times in this competition, and these are the games where you want to leave with no regrets. If you're going to step on the field, you want to put everything you've got because if you don’t get a positive result tomorrow, there isn't another game in this competition; it’s off to next year, and that's what it comes down to in these games. It's making sure that after 90-plus minutes, there are no regrets, and that you put your best foot forward. When we do that, good things happen."

Absences and doubts

The Vancouver Whitecaps will be without key striker Brian White, sidelined for a few more weeks with a hamstring injury.

For Forge, Malik Owolabi-Belewu remains a doubt. He traveled with the team to Vancouver but hasn’t featured since July 12, when he picked up an injury in a 1-1 draw with Ottawa.

Projected XIs

The Whitecaps won't take any chances and will put their best team possible on the pitch.
